I did not actually see the card because I had it sent to a friend but she loved it! I appreciated the shop writing inside for me before sending. I would highly recommend!

Friends since 6th grade...
Thank you for stopping in and for your interest in our work.
A bit about us:
Husband and wife, Mike & Kathie, formed StrongylosPhoto after a lot of years of doing our own thing both behind the lens and in the darkroom. Friends since childhood, in Spring 2011 we decided to relocate to our hometown of Imperial Beach, California.
~First time Mike had a camera in his hand: Age 11
~When Mike knew he'd make a career in the field of Photography: Age 16
~Schooling: Mar Vista High Photo classes...under the incredibly creative and influential Mr. Dennis Guidry
~SD City College, Photography major
~The Daily Grind Stuff: Photographic Lab tech and graphics finisher at Lockheed, NASA, Giant Photo and self
~Little known fact: Converted spare family bathroom into a darkroom at age 15
Kathie, on the other hand, probably spent too many hours with her hands in the fixer during B&W courses at Southwestern College, but so far no adverse symptoms have surfaced. :)
Her talents are as diverse as her journey through life has been thus far... accomplished weaver, basket maker, cold press soap maker, cheese monger and wanna be photo nerd. Oh, did I mention kid wrangler (AKA assistant teacher) in an inner city public school for a good long haul?
~Proud mama of an Air Force Man
~Neat little tidbit: Wove 3 large rugs for a 4th of July bash George Lucas was hosting back in 1988.
Our photographic style:
Mike’s unique style of capturing images offers the viewer an opportunity to reflect, to wonder, to look beyond the photo and feel the moment of it’s time…whether that moment occurred 30 years ago, or last week. Kathie tends to be drawn to the world up close and personal, as is apparent in her obsession with macro photography.
“Using a visual sense sharpened over many years in the traditional wet darkroom and with the use of modern imaging software, I enjoy bringing life to my film archives as well as my present day digital captures. Grounded in the classics photographically, I present my work with more than a casual nod of appreciation to those who shot before me.” -Mike
“Discovering interesting ways to capture the colors and textures of nature with my camera is what drives me as an artist. I enjoy getting as close to the subject as I can, with the hope that I’ll be able to capture it’s hidden beauty. I give thanks and credit to my mother, also an artist, for shaping and nurturing my attitudes from a young age. Unlike my mother, I can't draw, or paint, worth a lick. :) My camera is my paintbrush. I hope that the finished product that my camera helps me create speaks to you...the viewer” -Kathie
We hope that you've enjoyed getting to know us through this profile, and that you will get more of a sense of who we are as you browse our work. It’s our pleasure to answer any questions you may have.

Around the web
Veracity. Film never lied. I always admired it for that. A piece of film shot in 1940 holds the same truth now as it did then. Thankfully. That's why I shoot. To perpetuate that truth. -Mike
