About

Studio METHOD(E) is a jewellery studio in Quebec City, they run workshops, have available workspaces for other artists and create unique jewellery.

Studio METHOD(E) is a jewellery studio owned and operated by Emily Lewis. It is located in the community of Limoilou in beautiful Québec City, the capital of the french speaking province of Québec in Canada.

Emily studied fine arts at NSCAD university, majoring in jewellery design and metalsmithing. She is originally from Nova Scotia (a gem of a province on the east coast of Canada). In 2008 she up and moved to Québec City. After moving to Montréal from Québec and finally returning to Québec city for good she settled into Limoilou and, with colleague Marie-Hélène Bélanger, she founded Studio METHOD(E) in 2011. A couple of years ago Marie-Hélène's personal path led in a new direction and Emily took over as sole owner of Studio METHOD(E).

Studio METHOD(E) has always concentrated on exploring non-traditional jewellery making techniques. They offer workshops in powdercoating, electroforming, acid and electro etching as well as 'garage' casting (an extremely fun workshop which concentrates on a variety of casting techniques using scavenged materials and hardware store finds). They also have rental benches for other jewellers and artists to use.

Emily's jewellery is made in small batches. No two pieces are exactly alike. She uses about 80% recuperated metals, mainly scavenged copper electric wires and roofing copper. Most of her jewellery is bright and colourful, using powdercoating to provide a durable and colourful finish to her pieces (powdercoating is an industrial technique which deposits a fine plastic powder onto the surface of the metal which is then cured in an oven. Like enamelling with plastic).

She finds it difficult to continuously make the same pieces so she often has as many as ten different projects on the go. She works in circles in the studio, and her passion is creating new designs while making a big mess.
