I absolutely love this felted artwork. The cottage is so sweet and the colors are very beautiful and vibrant! I placed it on a small stand on the top of my console so it can be seen all the time. Thank you!

In this felt picture I wanted to capture the abundance of wild flowers along our road sides and the fields are a vibrant yellow with buttercups.

I've just added an exciting new section to my shop! Hand spun art yarns. Perfect for adding accents to garments without the need for multiple balls of yarn or fancy stitches.

I have added lots of hand embroidery to describe flowers and grasses in this felt painting.

About

Textile wall art to make you smile.

Almost 15 years ago my family and I decided to make our dream come true and move to rural Wales to run a small holding. I have always worked with textiles but being surrounded by so many sheep compelled me to experiment with wet felt making. I soon became fascinated by this ancient and almost magical process and discovered that it is possible to use the fibres to make pictures which resemble paintings as well as for making hats and bags.
I have been selling my work locally through shops, galleries and at craft fairs for many years but decided to open an etsy shop to widen my audience. Etsy is the ideal market place for me as living in an isolated village as well as having dogs, sheep, pigs, poultry and a vegetable garden to care for makes working regular hours out of the question. I find that fitting everything in makes for a very long but interesting and varied day.

There are two types of felting:
Needle felting - A relatively modern technique carried out by repeatedly stabbing woollen fibres with a special barbed needle. This allows fibres to be positioned and held in place quite precisely but they can be pulled out again. Artwork made in this way is best displayed behind glass.
Wet felting - An ancient method which pre dates weaving. By pouring hot, soapy water over woollen fibres and then rubbing, rolling and throwing, it is possible to permanently tangle them together. This makes a very strong fabric which is almost impossible to tear or break. However, fibres can move around during this process.
To overcome these problems I use both methods on every piece. First I needle felt to hold everything in place and then wet felt to ensure that it stays there.
I also add both free machine and hand stitching to add more detail, definition and texture. Each felt takes a long time to make but the end result is an original, highly tactile piece of art which can be displayed without glass and should last a life time.
My 3 adult daughters say that I am sometimes embarrassing, often eccentric but never boring. I hope this is reflected in my work!

I paint with fibres and make pictures with felt. My work is inspired by the landscape around me and rural Welsh life. My work is bright in colour , naive in style and people tell me it makes them feel happy.

Frequently asked questions

Care instructions

I am often asked how to keep an unframed felt dust free. It is very simple all you need to do is take it outside occasionally and bang it againt your hand. Should anything get splashed on to your felt whilst it is hanging a damp cloth or sponge can be used with no adverse effects at all. Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

custom orders

If you have a special place that you would like me to make a felt of I am happy to do so. In the past I have made felts of peoples houses, favourite walks and even a beach where someone was proposed to. Please contact me to discuss your wishes.
