Announcement    Our shearing is finished for spring 2022 and I'm slowly getting our fleeces listed in our shop. 2021 turned out to be a pretty good year for growing wool on our farm. The fleeces are clean and strong. I've gotten all of my Gulf Coast Fleeces updated and am now working on the crosses. Hopefully I can get those all up in the coming week between lambs. Happy spinning, felting, weaving, crafting!

About SummerFieldsFibers

Sales 371
On Etsy since 2014

SummerFieldsFibers is a part of our small family farm in rural Tennessee.

Our shop consists of 35 ewes, 2 rams, and a varying number of lambs (Gulf Coast Natives, Romneys, Polypays, Cotswolds and a few odds and ends) my husband, my three children, occasional student interns, and myself. The sheep spend most of their time grazing on lush pastures - they are 100% grass fed. They are moved onto fresh grass at least once a week. When they are not eating they are usually lying around chewing their cuds. The lambs spend ample time frolicking and hopping around. Once a month they are all rounded up and looked over to make sure that they are all in good health and once a year they are sheared. We are not certified organic but we follow the guidelines of the National Organic Program. My husband does the shearing along with a professional (if we can schedule him). Once the sheep are sheared we skirt their fleeces and pack them for storage. From there, we either sell the fleeces raw or we wait until we have time to play with them. So far we are still just experimenting with washing, dying, and spinning. In 2018 I sent some wool off to Frankenmuth Woolen Mill to be made into roving and I was super thrilled with the results. I'm hoping to send more in this spring. I also had some wool mill spun by America's Natural Fiber Works into rug yarn which I used to make rugs as Christmas gifts. I'm dabbling with natural dyes and spinning and may have some of the results available soon.

That's pretty much it. Aside from the sheep we also have dairy goats, chickens, and lots of vegetables - including many varieties of garlic which we sometimes have available on Etsy when it's garlic season. We've been selling wool now for 6 years and have learned a whole lot from our customers. We appreciate all of your feedback as we continue to grow and learn. Thanks!

Welcome to our page! We are a small family farm in rural Tenessee selling wool and wool products from our small flock of sheep. We practice sustainable agriculture. Our sheep are grass-fed and rotated so that they always have clean grass to eat. We shear our sheep in the spring and though are sheep do not wear jackets, we try hard to keep theirs fleeces clean for the enjoyment of our customers. We've been in the wool business for 10 years now and are still learning a lot about working with wool. We love learning from our customers and encourage your honest feedback about our products and service.
