Sunshine of the Hand-Made Variety

Why: I decided to start this shop out of curiosity more than anything. My day job doesn't lend itself to creativity, so this is my outlet (although I'd love for this to become my day job!). I enjoy trying new things and learning how to work with all sorts of mediums, from paper to fabric, and ink to pastels. There is still so much to try! Most of what I design and create comes from my love of the subject (i.e., my colonial house sketch=love of historic architecture) or just trying to capture a cuteness factor (Giraffe's Day Out). I love making others smile when they see something I've created. There should be more smiles in the world!

About Me: I have a degree in Interior Design. I also dabble in Architecture, and am fascinated with historic buildings and homes. I like to dabble in all sorts of media, so I tend to have a wide array of items in my shop. I have felt the need to be creative ever since the first time I picked up a crayon during kindergarten art time. I've moved around quite a bit, but now reside in Ohio, not far from my native state of Michigan. I enjoy doing all sorts of creative things: drawing, sewing, designing, cooking, baking, decorating, and just generally staying busy. These hobbies make me feel like I'm home. I decided to try making my ideas, designs and doodles into functional items that can be used every day. I am thankful to have a husband who is so incredibly supportive of my shop here, and is just as excited as I am when I make a sale.

My Philosophy of Art and Design: I believe that functionality is essential to the design of any object; otherwise, if you can't use it for something, then it's just going to collect dust and eventually find its way to the attic. However, I think that functionality can come in the form of providing amusement to another person, which is the purpose of my handmade notepads, needle felted items, and hand-painted jewelry. I hope you will find that my shop contains items of a functional and amusing nature!

Welcome to my shop! I hope you find something you just can't live without. I am always expanding my inventory, so be sure to check back often!

Accepted payment methods

Payment
I am happy to accept Etsy Direct Checkout, Paypal and major credit cards. Payment is expected within three business days of the purchase. Please send me a message if other arrangements will need to be made (so that I know what's going on). If payment is not made within this time frame and there has been no attempt to contact me, your order will be canceled and you will not be able to purchase additional items from my shop.

Custom items must be paid in full before any work will be done. A custom listing will be made for the customer, and the listing must be purchased before any design work will begin. I will work with you and make every effort to ensure your happiness in the finished product.

International customers: I welcome international orders. I do ask that international customers use the Etsy Direct Checkout option, because customs forms are printed directly on the postage label, and the rate will be better than purchasing at the post office. If the difference is over $1.00, I will refund the difference to you in whole number dollar amounts. Currently, Paypal does not offer the option to print international postage labels, which creates extra time and expense at the post office. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
Shipping
With the exception of custom-made items, I will ship my items out within three business days (Monday-Friday) of payment (or, if paying with e-check, item will ship within three days of payment clearing). I will make every effort to ensure that your item leaves my home with as much protection as possible to prevent damage. That may include boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, padded envelopes, or rigid mailers, and those costs are included in the shipping charges. All packages will include a tracking number from USPS; however, greeting cards are shipped via First Class Mail to save on shipping costs, and will not have a tracking number.

Domestic Sales:
Shipping is based on weight and shipping material costs. I don't try to make money off of my shipping charges. Insurance is always optional, and a good idea. If you wish to purchase insurance, you will need to contact me, and we can add the cost to the final purchase price. I will add insurance, at no additional cost to the buyer, for any purchase of $50 and over. I will always ship the fastest method possible, according to the total amount of shipping costs in your order; i.e. if you purchase multiple items, and the total for shipping will cover an upgrade to Priority Mail, then I'll ship that method, and your items will arrive to you a day or two faster!

I'm sorry, but due to Paypal seller policies, I don't allow for local pickups.

International Sales:
At this time, I am only shipping to the United States, Canada, U.K., France, Germany and Australia, so if you live outside of these countries and are interested in purchasing an item, please message me and we can make arrangements. I am happy to work with international customers!

International sales are shipped using First Class International mail, up to 4 lbs. (over 4 lb. requires a mandatory upgrade in mail service, resulting in a substantial increase in shipping costs). This service does not include a tracking number or insurance, so if you would like to purchase insurance or upgrade to priority mail service, please contact me before you place your order so that I can adjust your total cost accordingly before you make your payment. I’m sorry, but I can’t be responsible for lost packages that are not insured. International buyers are responsible for all customs/duty fees, as well as any brokerage fees, import taxes, and any other fees that might be imposed. Please anticipate your purchase to take up to two months to reach you.
Refunds and Exchanges
I can accept refunds on an individual basis, with the exception of custom orders--I consider these non-refundable unless there is something wrong.

If you feel that you need to return an item, please contact me as soon as possible. I can accept returns if you contact me within three days of receiving your item. Unless it is my mistake (i.e., you receive the wrong item), buyer will be responsible for all return shipping charges. However, if the reason for refund is that you changed your mind and decided that you didn't want your purchase, you will receive a refund minus $0.50 to cover fees and the cost of re-listing the item you originally purchased, and you will not be refunded the original cost of shipping the item to you.

No matter what, if you feel that there is a problem, please contact me right away! I want you to be pleased with not only your purchase, but also your service.
Additional policies and FAQs
Because of the handmade, one-of-a-kind nature of custom items, each one might vary slightly from the photos online. That is what makes them unique!

I am happy to leave feedback for my customers once I know you are happy with your purchase.

All coupon codes sent out will expire three months after coupon date.

All policies have exceptions. The policies listed here are guidelines for purchases. If you have any problems at all, just send me a message! I will work with you to try and make you happy. After all, customers are the people who keep us in business!
