About

Create your reality

I'm massively inspired by festivals and find that my love and passion for live music, creativity, outdoor living, travel and spirituality fits perfectly in with the making of my art, which I sell at Festivals in England, Scotland, Wales (not yet Ireland but maybe soon!).

I've been creating jewellery for 7 years now. I needed to create a job in which I could be happy, feel free in some sense of the word and juggle with the ups and downs of living with a rare vascular disease (malformation) which has required me to be in and out of hospital all my life.

I live in the wilds of Northumberland, England in a beautiful and very secluded valley next to a river, magical woodland. Surrounded by wild flower meadows and pastures of grazing lambs, sheep and cows, I live here with my amazing fiancee Ian and our lovely cat Bootsy who is very much part of us. We are planning on getting married next year!

Creating jewellery using polymer clay was a completely new experiment which started as a therapeutic hobby while I was working a job after university that sapped away my creative time. Ian bought me my first tools and clay for Christmas after I had been researching obsessively most evenings about how to get started with making polymer clay beads.

I soon realised I had a unique talent particularly in the process called 'millefiori'. I've always been good at manipulating and sculpting and worked mainly with clay and sculpture in GCSE and A Level Art in which I gained top A* and A grades. I didn't go on to study or practice art after school and around the age of 24 my subdued creativity began to burst out of me! I started intricately painting wooden beads and stringing them on different coloured ribbon and gifting them to friends, which then led to me selling them.

Experimenting with Fimo clay was a magical door that had suddenly opened. I began making almost every day as I was so fascinated by the process of caning. I would stay up long into the night to finish a cane I had been working on.

I now run 3 little businesses which have grown from making that first little clay bead. It's been an incredible journey so far as most of you who follow my work and my life will know!

The Dread Bead Shop is my other shop here on Etsy. I used to sell dread beads in my jewellery shop but decided to create a separate shop in 2014 which has proved to be a wise decision with growing success!

Wild Flower Trading, based on where we live, is the name of my stall which I take away to Festivals with me. It's also the name of my third little venture, my fair trade gift shop I created in which to sell my handmade jewellery and dread beads at festivals and markets! I've always loved the idea of having my own shop since selling my work in other peoples shops and meeting so many inspiring people. My shop however is not a brick and mortar (yet) and fits well with my creative tendancies and lust for travel, escape and freedom.

I was contacted by Vogue Magazine in 2012 and agreed to have some of my work and details about my business put in the back pages. I don't know if this really represents anything to do with the core of my creative venture although it was fun and a little over whelming at the time!

2017 is set to be a very exciting year for me ~ I'm taking my stall to more festivals than ever this year....Glastonbury, Eden, WOMAD, Green Gathering and Kelburn Garden Party with my stall 'Wild Flower Trading'. I will be creating in between festivals and also moving my home studio downstairs into Ian's music room while he moves his space up into my old studio. I'm looking forward to setting up a completely new space, it has a log burner in too so no more freezing winters upstairs trying to work with rock hard clay and freezing cold hands!
