Books and the Sea.....that's about it for me!

Books and jewelry making are what keep me somewhat sane. I love to do custom orders. I enjoy working with vintage findings (and the treasure hunt for them!) as well as my assistant, my seven-year-old son who has a good idea for color.

Welcome to the Surly Seahorse! She's not really cranky, she'd just like to spend her time reading Russian literature or making jewelry. Instead, she's just chasing that baby Octopus around the tidepool....

Custom orders welcome....I can always send you photos of unique beads and we can create something beautiful with the colors and styles of your choice!

  • Pay with PayPal
Please make Paypal payment within 48 hours of purchase, or let me know if you need more time. I ship items within 2 business days with Delivery confirmation.

Communication is key-if there's a problem or delay, just let me know.
I ship within two business days after payment is received. Please keep holidays in mind when ordering. I use Delivery confirmation and either myself or Paypal will email you the tracking number.
If this is a gift, let me know and when possible, I can wrap it...given I have the stuff on hand!
Refunds and Exchanges
My policy is to accept refunds within seven days of your receiving the item. This gives you time to inspect it and see if you like it. If for some reason it doesn't meet your criteria, ship it back to me and I'll refund your original purchase price and original shipping fee.

After that, no refunds are given but I can work with you in case of repair. Repairs are unlikely, as I pride myself on double-securing (at the minimum) of all pieces. See below for considerations to avoid damage.
Additional policies and FAQs
Jewelry, whether precious metals, glass, gemstones, metal, or crystals, HATES moisture and chemicals.
Because it's impossible to know how each person will treat their jewelry, here's some ways to make it last:
1. Do not bathe or swim in your jewelry. Hot tubs are murder, even if you think it won't actually get wet. Moisture breaks down the insides and outsides of glass and even can etch the exterior of a stone or glass bead. It can also change colors of metal pieces.
2. Perfume, hairspray, and body lotion are also enemies of your jewelry, for the same reasons as above. Lotions and hair product can leave gunk on your necklace that diminishes shine.
3. Do not sleep in your jewelry!!!
4. Do not hang your necklaces, as gravity exerts unnecessary pull on the clasps and connectors, and can, over time, stretch the shape of your necklaces. Lay flat to store and prevent this. Hanging them up also affects how it will drape later.
5. The pieces that I list as "artifact" jewelry have special care requirements. Mixed metals need to be cared even more so than gemstones, as molecular changes can occur if they are not stored properly. Pieces featuring text and paper inserts are obviously very fragile and would be ruined if wet.

A useful website that explains jewelry and skin reactions is This shouldn't apply to the pieces I sell, as I don't use cheap metals, but it is useful to see how medication and products can interact with jewelry.
