Jane Ianniello é uma pintora radicada em Brisbane, cujo trabalho recente se inspira na linguagem visual da literatura popular de meados do século XX. Suas pinturas apropriam-se de imagens das capas de revistas e livros baratos das décadas de 1930 a 1950 — obras ilustradas concebidas para chocar, seduzir e capturar a atenção do espectador.
Ianniello frequentemente coloca as figuras da capa, assustadas ou perplexas, em ambientes incongruentes e surreais, povoados por animais imponentes ou plantas carnívoras gigantescas. Essas cenas exploram medos primordiais que persistem da infância à idade adulta; às vezes a ameaça é explícita, outras vezes é implícita, mas invisível.
Ela também se apropria de modelos de capas de revistas pulp para suas pinturas de "mitologia". Essas pinturas fazem referência a narrativas literárias e culturais compartilhadas, incluindo contos de fadas tradicionais, terror gótico, o Velho Oeste e outros mitos formativos, que ela reinventa com um toque contemporâneo e frequentemente perturbador.

Jane Ianniello is a Brisbane-based painter whose recent work draws on the visual language of mid-twentieth century “pulp” fiction. Her paintings appropriate imagery from the covers of cheap popular magazines and books of the 1930s to 1950s—illustrated works designed to shock, seduce, and seize the viewer’s attention.
Ianniello often places the frightened or bewildered cover figures into incongruous, surreal environments populated by looming animals or oversized carnivorous plants. These scenes tap into primal fears that persist from childhood into adulthood; at times the threat is overt, and at others it is implied but unseen.
She also appropriates pulp cover models for her “mythology” paintings. These paintings reference shared literary and cultural narratives, including traditional fairytales, gothic horror, the Wild West, and other formative myths, which she reimagines with a contemporary and often unsettling twist.
She is currently developing a body of work exploring her own childhood and its lasting psychological impact.
Working primarily with acrylic paints and gels, Ianniello subtly incorporates iridescent metallics and interference paints to enhance mood and atmosphere. She spends days selecting the subject, composition, and emotional tone of each work, followed by weeks of painting to construct a compelling visual narrative.
Over the past decade, Ianniello has sold hundreds of paintings internationally, been a finalist in multiple art competitions, and exhibited in galleries throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Her original works are held in private collections worldwide.
