NEW OFFERING! Do you have garments that have faded, are white, or you just don't like the color of? Are ready for a fresh look? If so, mail them to Surya Leela's shop and for a re-dye or color change! I did this recently to an off-white down comforter that has been around for a while, and it's now a beautiful salmon pink that cheers the bedroom and spirit! A pair of my daughter's linen pants went into a Bordeaux dye bath and cam out looking sassy and new. For a minimal fee, this can be you too. Look for the listing "FLY Re-Dye" in the shop.

Due to Covid-19, dyes from the supplier are either out or running low. At this time, I am still offering all colors you see listed, but you may want to send me a quick note to check when you are making you purchase.
If you would like your garment to be color I don't usually offer, please let me know what you are looking for and I guide you through the process of custom ordering.

About SuryaLeelaDesigns

Sales 416
On Etsy since 2011

Why I Made Surya Leela...

In Sanskrit, “Surya” means SUN, and “Leela” (often spelled “Lila”) means PLAY or GAME. Leela is the spontaneous and joyful "play" of universal cosmic energies that results in creation. Leela is nature of the soul, living in the flow, light-hearted and carefree.

Living, at it's core, is dynamic and challenging. We all experience difficulties. Sometimes we need reminding to slow down, practice compassion, relax, and make peace with ourselves and others. Sometimes we need reminding that we are amazing, miraculous,  and beautiful, and that the experience of living is thrilling and full of wonder.
Surya Leela Designs exists because I want to share the message of Yoga and as an outlet for my love of textiles, color, and creativity.

SLD's hemp-organic-cotton based, yoga-inspired brand was born out of a desire to support depth to the practice of Yoga as the "business" of Yoga is growing ~ a tether so-to-speak to the fundamental philosophy and purpose of Yoga - to appreciate, love and respect all of creation. And provide a healthy clothing alternative and sustainable business model that supports mindfulness, comfort, and environmental stewardshiip for my clients and friends all over the world. When we feel good with ourselves, connect with others and take it easy, we make a good life for all.
I use Sanskrit names as a way to educate and inspire learning about Yoga, Sanskrit and Ayurveda, three fascinating and valuable sciences with timeless, practical applications to modern living.

Leela, the laughing lion logo for Surya Leela Designs, represents the awesome life-giving power of the great Sun, Surya. S/He is a symbol for vitality, courage, creativity and protecting what is precious ~ family, friendship, community; health, freedom and the Earth ~ with grace and power.

When I'm not making patterns and sewing clothes, you might find me stamping printing or painting, dancing to all kinds of music, being outside enjoying the sounds of nature, cooking delicious food, teaching yoga, or hanging upside down from my Great Yoga Wall.

Be in touch! I'd love to talk with you.

Care instructions

For best results, please machine-wash gentle cycle or hand wash with cold or warm water using a mild, phosphate-free detergent.

Machine dry on low heat or hang to dry. Avoid drying on high heat to prevent further shrinkage over time, and to preserve the beauty and life of your clothing.

Colors should not bleed, but I recommend washing your garment separately the first time, then with like colors in the future.

Because your garment is dyed using fiber reactive dyes, it is important to not let clothes sit wet, but rather remove from the washer promptly in order avoid staining other garments when wet.

Shipping & Turn-Around Time

All items are shipped with tracking numbers by USPS First Class or Priority Mail within the US and internationally.

Lost or stolen packages will not be replaced. If you would like extra insurance to be added to your package, please make a note of it upon checkout.

All in-stock “ready-to-ship” items will be mailed within 2 days of purchase.
Made-to-order items will be shipped within 2 - 3 weeks from receipt of payment.
Custom orders will be shipped as soon as possible, but within 3 weeks to a month’s time.

Returns and Exchanges

Due to the nature of MADE-TO-ORDER work, Surya Leela has a NO REFUND policy.

If there is a production or workmanship problem, please contact me within 14 days of purchase. You may send it back to be repaired or replaced, or we can discuss reimbursement for repair by your local tailor.

Please contact me first if wanting to send anything back for further customization or alteration. Doing so requires payment for additional costs for labor, materials, and shipping.

EXCHANGES for an alternate SIZE or COLOR will be charged a restock fee of 50% the cost of the garment.

Exchanges for an alternate STYLE will receive a credit of 30% the cost of original garment (up to $50) and the exchange must be for an item of equal value or less.

Fabric & Production Process

All fabric is organic and eco-sustainable. Hemp and Flax are environmentally friendly crops, using less water and being naturally pest-resistant and less volatile than cotton. Though blends are used most often to minimize environmental impact, cotton is delightful, and the organic cotton fabrics I use feel amazing.
Cloth is purchased in its un-dyed, natural state (with the exception of black) then garment-dyed using Procion, fiber-reacticve dyes to minimize skin irritation and environmental degradation. Hand-stamped patches are applied (unless otherwise specified) along with any trimming of threads and other finishing required).
Once production is finished your items are tastefully and securely packaged and readied for shipping.

More about Natural Fabrics

Slubs in the hemp blend fabrics are normal and are a feature of natural fabrics like hemp, flax, silk, and wool. Every effort is made to minimize them, but they happen. Picking does make slubbing worse. Slubbing generally does not cause a weakness in the knit. They can be darned if necessary.
