Watercolor Is a Way of Thinking About Painting

Watercolor is unique because it is a way to draw and still think about painting. It shares elements with drawing but, as in painting, color is of paramount importance. As an oil painter, I appreciate this unique quality of the medium.

I work from photographs of urban traffic camera images. Before starting a new oil painting I make many watercolor versions of the webcam photo, deciding what to keep, what to edit, what to exaggerate. Some of these works transcend their status as studies and become works of art themselves. I'm attracted to watercolors that look as if they just happened spontaneously on the paper, that disguise how difficult they were to make.

These watercolors have been exhibited and sold in galleries. Now you can find them here at my store.

Hello and welcome to my shop! I am a newcomer to Etsy but not to exhibiting and selling artwork. I have been making art for decades, selling mostly through galleries and art consultants.

I'm excited about selling my work directly to you through Etsy! Currently my store specializes in works on paper--small watercolors that are drawings I make for my oil paintings.

Why buy original work-on-paper?

• It is unique, one-of-a-kind artwork.
• It is affordable, an excellent way to collect original artwork on a budget.
• It gives you a direct connection to the artist’s hand which drew the line or painted the stroke.
• You can interact with the materials—the texture of the paper, the weight of the paint—in a way that you can’t with reproductions.
• Owning original works of art is deeply satisfying and adds to your quality of life.

FAQs

Q: Is there anything special I should know about exhibiting watercolors?

A: Yes. Always display works-on-paper, including watercolors, out of direct sunlight.

Q: My business would like to include a photo of your artwork on our website. Is this o.k.?

A: Yes, provided that you give credit to me as the artist. Also, I would like to link the page to my website, so let me know!

Q: Is it o.k. to use an image of your artwork for my holiday cards this year?

A: Yes but with these 3 stipulations:
1) the image colors and design cannot be altered
2) credit must be given to me as the artist somewhere on the card.
3) the cards are to be given away, not sold
