"The Iowa State Fair" is one of my largest and most detailed paintings to date.

It began with many years of research.
-
I got input from several very special friends, who have a total fair-going of about 75 years.

Things get moved and repainted. The main livestock pavilion was moved several times.

The details could have gone on forever for this painting, but I had to stop due to "painting fatigue!"
It started on our farmhouse kitchen table.
When my oldest daughter was born, I suddenly became a stay at home mother and I began the most fun time of my life: being the mother of 4 wonderful children and starting a painting "career." At first I had to hide the fact that I lived and worked out of my home, actually in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa, on our large oak kitchen table. My painted wooden "Family Hearts" were sold to gift shops in the Amana Colonies nearby, and later throughout the midwest by a sales rep in Minneapolis for many years. I eventually realized that paintings were my true interest and began making art prints in 2000. I feel blessed to be able to have my hobby as a business. My entire family helps, but most of all my wonderful husband Tom.
I think of painting like many others do quilting or needlepoint, working up to several years on a project. Often, my goal is to paint 1 square inch when I sit down to paint. Painting is relaxing.

Although I was born in NYC, we lived on a dairy farm in upstate NY until I was 11 yrs old. Now I am a full-blooded Iowan and love the Iowa countryside. I have always painted for fun and relaxation.
