Nautical theme metal ornaments
Original Sweeney Ridge Designs are created by the artist Mary Sweeney Underwood and her husband John - the metalsmith.
Sweeney Ridge is the name of a farm in Fort Fairfield, Maine on the Canadian border where Mary Sweeney Underwood grew up. Wherever the Sweeneys moved to, traced all the way back to Ireland, they always located on a hill close to a river and named the farm Sweeney Ridge.
Today Mary lives in the Boothbay Harbor region of Maine with her husband, metalsmith John T. Underwood. John is originally from Presque Isle, Maine and has been a metalsmith for 40 years, for the last 20 he has focused on cutting Mary’s designs which she finishes in handpainted folk art.
The designs of Sweeney Ridge are known for their realistic style, graceful images and are reminders of visits to Maine. The last few years the decorative metal artwork has included 150 breeds of dogs. Their current project is the “My Heart Is In Maine” series which are miniature paintings in folkart of Maine lighhtouses. These are offered as anytime ornaments and are collector‘s pieces.
