About

Head in the clouds and hands in some paint.

My name is Emily and I am the owner and artist of Sweet Clementine Print. I grew up in Chester County, Pennsylvania surrounded by historic farms and equestrian styles. I spent nearly my whole childhood outside- Exploring the three acres around my house, swimming in the creeks and pond, and riding my bike everywhere. However, among all of that I loved to art and creating most of all.

One of my earliest artistic memories was with my father. I remember when the weekend newspaper would arrive my father would open it up to the comics page and fold it over on our coffee table. I would grab some blank paper and he would grab the pencil. Our main focus on the comic’s page wasn’t the funnies or the games; it was the “Learn How to Draw___” at the bottom corner of the page. Line by line he would help guide me until the picture was complete. Not long after our weekend ritual he taught me how to draw a horse. I became obsessed and drew horses all the time from that point on. From these moments I gained knowledge of form, perspective, and patience.

All throughout my schooling years my main focus was always art and I knew I was destined to be in that field. With strong portfolio skills I attended the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Even though I entered art school with every intention to get my degree in Graphic Design I fell in love with the fire, heavy tools, and metal (so bad ass!) that came with the jewelry department. So, 2007 I graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Metals/Jewelry/ Cad-Cam from the Tyler.

Shortly after graduating I got a job at a gift ware company making ornaments and serve ware. About a year after being hired I was asked to form a jewelry department, thus running my own studio. My jewelry is still being made and sold today. As much as I love designing and making jewelry my inner artist was not satisfied. So, I started drawing and painting again, opened this little shop, and named it after my sweet dog Clementine.

I am a perfectionist - Ok, an extreme perfectionist. I think that’s what makes me a better artist, to constantly be pushing myself. Even though I love drawing and working digitally (graphic design), but most of all I love watercolors. Working with watercolors helps me go outside of my comfort zone. This medium causes me to work more freely and to embrace its unexpected nature. I absolutely love the end result. Being inspired to paint animals and nature takes me back to my childhood and that’s what I like about it most of all. Bitter Sweet.
