Who Wouldn't Love Sewing Cute Doll Clothes?
I come from a long line of women who love sewing. My great aunt Sue has all the fancy machines and has saved every pattern she's ever owned in her 70 years of sewing. I walk into her sewing room and drool! I grew up with a mom who made every Halloween costume, all our doll clothes, a lot of our every day clothes, and fixed prom dresses last minute for our friends. When I learned I was pregnant with a girl, I couldn't wait to get behind my sewing machine and start creating for her!
The legacy is already continuing. My four year old daughter spends a lot of time in my studio with me, cutting fabrics, pinning them to doll dress forms to "make dresses" for her dollies. When I'm sewing doll clothes, I always make sure to make an extra for her in prints she loves and she's gathering quite the collection for herself. There are some real perks to having a mommy who enjoys sewing doll clothes!
My path in sewing for a business started with baby clothes in my original shop, Necessary Cuteness. Soon after, I started selling felt food in my shop Felt Food Kids and then Necessary Cuteness for Dolls was born. My felt food was recently featured in Pregnancy and Newborn magazine, an honor for me!
My awesome supportive husband handles most of my graphic design work. We're hoping to add patterns to the shop soon and his engineering mind will soon be applying his skills to digitizing my doll clothes patterns!
I have a large studio in our home and have 2 sewing machines, 1 embroidery machine and 2 sergers. Despite having a cutting table in the studio and all my supplies there, I can most often be found cutting fabric and sewing where I always have: our dining room table. With an active little girl, it's nice to grab a moment and work when I can and still feel a part of family life while I work. In the evenings, I will often sew downstairs in the studio but to be honest, everyone here is used to the steady hum of a sewing machine and the sounds lull them to sleep quickly.
Thank you to everyone who supports my shop. It's been several years of running my sewing shops and I still get excited with each sale. My goal is to provide quality doll clothes that are as cute as they are affordable. My hope is that the doll clothes become practical heirlooms that are passed on to each new generation, just as the doll clothes my mother sewed for me are now on my daughter's dolls.
