Some say I illustrate for stories that haven't been written yet

When I first started thinking seriously about an art career before college (twenty years ago!) children's book illustration caught my eye. But through the years, I've found I work best to my own ideas and inspiration, rather than those of others. And I love sitting down with a blank slate and seeing what happens.
So while I occasionally will work on a project with a friend, everything you see here is from my own brain. I have an obsession with painting ghost rabbits, haunted clothing and ridiculous pets. In between those themes, many other oddities spring forth from my sketchbook. I like to try a little bit of everything from sculpting to painting to printmaking. My Instagram captures much of this process:

Four years ago my husband and I adopted some chickens. They started producing some lovely (and delicious) eggs. Inspired by a friend who does Pysanky, or traditional egg batiking, I learned how to clean out the shells and then (preferring acrylic paint to wax & dye) began to paint and scratch scenes and characters on them. It's sort of scratchboard-in-the-round and I really enjoy picking them up to work on when I find myself stuck on one of my "flat" paintings.

Why Sweet Enemy? The name was bestowed when I was making cakes for a living (and bringing too many home) and ever since I've found it's a good description for the reactions my artwork generates: Sweet, but with a little edge.
