About

Scientist by trade, jewelry artisan by choice

My love of jewelry comes from my mother. As a child I was always playing with and admiring my mother's jewelry that she kept stashed away in her dresser. I used to sneak into her room while she was in the kitchen and try on all her earrings, bracelets and necklaces. I’d pile them on then dance around in front of the mirror, loving the way some pieces jingled and jangled, and dangly earrings were (and still are) my favorite.

Growing up, my parents and my grandmother would occasionally gift me with small pieces of gold jewelry, so that's pretty much all I knew - costume jewelry was never really worn in my family, we favored precious metals and natural gemstones.

Back in 2007, I decided I wanted to expand my small jewelry collection, for the simple reason that I wanted to have more interesting pieces to wear than just the plain gold cross and hoop earrings that I wore every day. Well, buying gold can get pretty expensive (especially the last few years!), but I had no desire to purchase costume jewelry. I did have a few silver pieces but selections in stores seemed pretty limited and everything looked the same. One day I ran into a co-worker in the ladies' room - she was wearing this exquisite silver necklace. I'd never seen anything like it and asked her where she got it from - she said she made it herself. And that's really where it started for me - within a few days of that random encounter in the ladies' room, I had purchased my first set of hand tools, some wire and beads and a beginner's book and started learning some simple techniques to make jewelry, just sitting at the end of the dining room table.

Although my original intent was just to make a few pieces for myself to wear, this quickly snowballed into an all-out obsession and next thing you know I've made more jewelry than I know what to do with.

In 2008, I discovered etsy and opened my first shop, TaBouTreasures. As I grew my technical skills, my designs evolved as well. After a while I found that the pieces I was selling on etsy were pretty varied, from simple bead-strung and wire-wrapped pieces to more technically challenging metalsmithed designs. I enjoyed dabbling in everything, so within a couple years I opened my second etsy shop, SweetTaBou. My intent was to sell the metalsmithed pieces under TaBouTreasures, where there’s more focus on the metal, and the simpler beaded jewelry designs under SweetTaBou, where the focus is on the beads.

Since that time I first started out making jewelry on the end of the dining room table, I’ve acquired more skills and the tools to go with them. Now I have a small studio in my home where I can go “play” and create whatever tickles my fancy. Everything is 100% done by me – design, execution, photography, making the listings, packaging orders and running to the post office, sourcing materials, etc. My shops are all just me :)

My design inspiration usually comes from the materials themselves. I tend to hoard gems and beads, then design around a particular gemstone. I also draw a lot of my inspiration from middle and far eastern designs or motifs.

I enjoy making little pieces of wearable art, mostly from precious metals and gemstones, and offering them to others here on etsy and at the occasional craft show. In addition to the materials and the workmanship, a little bit of that little girl who used to love playing with her mother’s jewelry goes into each piece I make, and I truly hope that whoever ends up owning one of my pieces feels that same pleasure when they wear it.

Thank you for your time :)

Hello and welcome to SweetTaBou, a tiny division of TaBouTreasures :)

Here you will find my handcrafted jewelry made of sterling or fine silver, goldfilled or gold vermeil with semi-precious stones, pearls, lampwork glass or dichroic glass. Everything you see here is crafted with care and the utmost regard to quality.

The jewelry designs in this shop differ from my main shop, TaBouTreasures (www.TaBouTreasures.etsy.com). TaBouTreasures jewelry is a little bolder and more heavily focused on the metalwork, while SweetTaBou jewelry consists of mostly beaded and wire wrapped pieces. SweetTaBou designs are simpler and on a smaller scale - one could call this the softer side of TaBou Treasures :) However the care and attention to detail that I put into each piece is the same, as is the quality of the materials I use and my workmanship. I don't cut corners.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
Payment must be in US currency. I accept Paypal, etsy direct checkout, and etsy gift cards. International buyers are responsible for any applicable duties or taxes that may be incurred on their purchase. Please note that California residents will be required to pay sales tax. (I know, it sucks, but that's the law...).
Shipping
Unless otherwise noted in the listings:
- Shipments within the US: Items listed for under $50 will ship via USPS Domestic First Class Mail with delivery confirmation (no insurance). Items listed for over $50 will ship via fully insured USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. If within the same order you purchase items with both shipping services, they will be combined as one Priority Mail shipment.
- Shipments outside the US: All items will be shipped USPS International First Class mail (no tracking and no insurance). Please note shipping and customs clearance times may vary. NOTE: International buyers may have additional duties or tariffs to be paid to the Customs Department before being able to take possession of the package. Please be advised that I am unable to forecast what dollar amounts constitute these duties or tariffs as they are formulated far after I transfer the package to the origin shipper. Buyer is responsible to pay these fees.
- Please note that first class international shipments are not insured and cannot be tracked, therefore if anything is lost, stolen or damaged (I pack everything securely), I will not be responsible and there will be no refund or replacement of items. By making a purchase you are accepting this risk. If you would like a shipping upgrade or insurance, send me a convo and I will look into the cost and update the listing accordingly upon mutual agreement.
- Shipping overages of $1 or more will be refunded to you upon your request.

If on the same day, you make a purchase both here and in my main shop, TaBou Treasures, send me a convo and I will try to combine shipping if everything fits in one box, then I will refund you the shipping overage if it’s $1or more.

I will ship your items out within one week of receiving payment (usually sooner for US shipments) - made to order items may take up to 2 weeks. I will then contact you via convo or etsy shipping notification to let you know your package has been shipped and, if applicable, provide you with the tracking number for your shipment. Please note that due to reduced postal service hours, shipments outside of the US may ship up to 2 weeks following receipt of payment - the post office closes before I get off work so I can usually only go on Saturdays, when the post office is only open for 4 hours. Automated postal centers cannot be used for international shipments, only domestic.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you have any questions about an item, please ask before making a purchase.

If you are not fully satisfied with your purchase, please contact me via convo before leaving any feedback. I will accept returns only for items on which feedback has not been left – please contact me via convo. After I receive the item back in the same condition it left my studio, I will refund the purchase price (minus shipping) and cancel the purchase. If you purchased multiple items in the same transaction and only want to return partial items, the purchase cannot be cancelled however I can still refund the purchase price of the item(s) being returned. Item must be returned within 3 days of receipt and securely packaged and in the same jewelry box I sent it in. Buyer must notify me once the item has been shipped back to me and provide the tracking number. Buyer pays all shipping costs. If item is damaged or in any way altered from its original condition when I receive it back, a full refund will not be given – I will contact you to discuss. If you send something back to me without notifying me first, your purchase will not be refunded or only partially refunded depending on the situation.

I package everything securely and will not be held liable for any damage that may occur during shipping. If your item is damaged when you receive it and if your package was insured, then we will open a claim with the US post office. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: For untracked/uninsured international shipments, if for any reason your item is lost or damaged in transit, unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it and it will not be refunded. BY making a purchase you are accepting this risk. If you are not comfortable with this then please contact me prior to making a purchase and we can look into shipping upgrades (they can be expensive but may be worth the peace of mind for more expensive items.)

Please note that CUSTOM orders are 100% NON-refundable, including the 50 % up front deposit. Ready to ship items that were altered or personalized for you in any way are not refundable either. Sorry, no exceptions.
Additional policies and FAQs
I guarantee the workmanship on all my pieces; they should all withstand normal wear. However, beads and gemstones can break or chip, and metals may bend or even break if overstressed, so please treat your jewelry with care and respect. Store your pieces in jewelry boxes when not being worn. Strung and knotted pieces should be stored flat. Don’t toss pieces around, especially if they contain glass or gemstones. Don’t wear your bracelets playing volleyball, you catch my drift?

If ever something you purchased from me should fail under normal wear, I will gladly repair or replace it with same or similar item free of charge (buyer assumes all shipping costs). However, if you back out of your driveway and run over your bracelet or something to that effect, I will gladly fix it (if I can!) or replace it for a fee.

And please be aware, sterling silver, copper and brass WILL tarnish over time, this is a natural process and can give your jewelry a beautiful effect. However, this can be slowed down significantly if you store your jewelry in an anti-tarnish container, or minimally in a sealed plastic bag to keep the air out. You can also polish the metal to bring the shine back. Please note some pieces I make are already oxidized on purpose – this will always be indicated in my listings (patina, antiqued, oxidized are some of the terms used in the listings).

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER!
The jewelry pieces you purchase from my shop are not toys for children so under no circumstances should they fall into the hands of a small child – both for the safety of the jewelry and especially the child! I will not be held liable for any injury that may occur from the improper use or handling of any piece of jewelry purchased from my shop. I will not be held responsible for any allergies you may have or may develop to silver or any other materials used in the fabrication of each piece of jewelry.
