I used this last night and really liked it. The shampoo lathered well, the conditioner was very moisturizing, and I didn't miss my old shampoo at all. I think I will be a repeat customer for these products! And the scent... AMAZING!! Quick shipping too!
My name is Shannon. I've always been the crafty sort. From the time I realized that one thing could be turned into something else using my imagination, I puzzled out different uses for many ordinary things. Cooking and baking were obvious pleasures since each provided the instant gratification I needed to remain inspired. Gardening proved very fruitful (yes, pun intended). It was a thrill to see how many bushels of vegetables I could harvest from small plots of otherwise overlooked earth. Sewing caused a love-hate relationship with my machine. Mostly love, but it was not my true love.
During one high school chemistry class the teacher gave a demonstration of what happened when a strong alkali (lye) was mixed with a fat: SOAP! Though the teacher did the dangerous lye mixing part, we students got to stir through saponification. I was hooked with a capital "H". I set out to research what properties the many different oils brought to soap. How they combined to create a synergy that skin loved. The insatiable desire to learn more about soap led me to buy lots of soap from different vendors at any craft show that happened to be near. My goal was to create the best of the best.
Then came college. My research time dwindled leaving little time for soap making other than an occasional melt and pour kit when I needed a scent fix. I fell into the mass marketed, very highly fragranced cleansing products. My skin was not happy, so I just slathered on more of the lotion from the vat and toughed it out. It wasn't until my dear daughter, Teagan was born that soap making once again returned to my life.
Teagan has very fair and sensitive skin, just like me. She developed a stubborn case of eczema in the folds of her elbows and behind her knees that would not go away. Her pediatrician suggested applying cortizone cream 3-5 times daily. No luck. It seemed to make the flare ups worse. Like any concerned mother I began researching causes and cures. I found how many other kids suffered from the same problem and were helped by using real soap.
I found an organic teaching farm near home that offered goat milk soap making classes. I attended one on a cold, rainy Saturday morning and again fell deeply in love with real, hand made soap. The lye was again familiar. Long unused knowledge of the oils and various properties started coming back. After diving into soap research once again reading every publication I could get my hands on, I successfully re-created the class soap and also made a pure olive oil Castille version for my darling daughter. To my delight her skin irritation subsided and only once in a very great while will reappear. I am not saying that soap cures anything (well except being dirty). Rather real old fashioned soap omits whatever ingredient(s) from the commercial varieties that were causing her skin allergy.
Hundreds of pounds of soap later I started to wonder what to do with it all. People seemed to really enjoy soap gifts, but there had to be more. My husband and neighbors urged me to start a small business to earn a bit of soap money to keep the hobby going. Hence, "Sweet Teagan's" was born. This 'little hobby' has allowed me to retire early from my prior life spent leading talented Information Systems teams at a Fortune 1000 aerospace company. Soap making and aerospace have more in common than you would think!
