Announcement   Welcome to my shop! I'm so glad we've found each other.
I find so much joy and refuge in creating art - expressing my emotions about the events of my day or my love for my family and pets, and in just going to that calming, restful place where I can let things be. My goal is for every ounce of that good feeling to spill over into my art and into you when you wear it, or decorate with it, or share it with a friend.

I try to let go of any need for perfection and just follow my intuitive impulses when I am painting, letting them lead me to a totally unique expression every time. It still amazes me when the blank silk or canvas I am working on magically opens into a new vista and becomes itself.

About

Be Good to Yourself

My journey into the arts began more than twenty years ago. All of my children were still little at the time, and my youngest son, Sean was born autistic. School was particularly difficult for him, in its social aspects and in the need for focus. In searching for a channel for him to express his emotions, I stumbled on the idea of enrolling him in art classes; the difference was immediate – he was focused and content when making art. The calming influence art had on Sean became an important factor in setting me on my artistic path. As he was happier and my other children began to grow older, I signed up for my first art class, and found my own outlet for self- expression. Until then, I had always thought that some people were born with artistic talent and others weren’t. I hadn’t realized that with passion and dedication and effort, anything can be learned and mastered if you can just find the courage to start! Be good to yourself and follow your heart.

Many years and many classes later, I am still on my path to mastery. I never let a day go by without drawing or painting, trying to better my skills and more clearly express my emotions through art. So be inspired! As Goethe said, “What you can do, or dream you can do, begin it; Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” I am now living my dream of being a full time working artist. I hope that the work that brings me so much joy spills over into you when you wear it, or decorate with it, or share it with friends. And Sean, by the way, grew up to be a successful and thriving potter, who often gets more press than I do.

I create each of my pieces in my home studio, surrounded by acres of farm land, and a multitude of birds, deer, and other wildlife, in addition to my tribe of pugs and other pets. No two scarves are ever alike; each bears the personal imprint of the moment in time in which it was created. I like to use a variety of techniques, including multiple dye processes, silk-screening, and hand-painting, to arrive at a one-of-a-kind, truly special work of wearable art, suitable for display or framing when not being worn.

Scarves are made of a variety of different silk weights and hands, including crepe, charmeuse, habotai, chiffon, and velvet; in addition, some are made of a rayon silk blend or cotton. I use professional grade silk dyes, steaming and heat setting as necessary, to create bold and brilliant ever-lasting color.

All scarves can be either hand-washed in a mild detergent and hung to dry, or simply dry cleaned. I sign each piece before it leaves my studio and include washing instructions with every scarf.

Recently I have started posting my original oil paintings, encaustics, and hand-pulled prints. Each of these is also a one of a kind original. All paintings are painted on canvas board, which is a firm surface that will easily pop into a basic, standard sized frame, unless otherwise listed in the item description (just a few come ready to hang, no framing needed). Prints come with a mat that will also fit into a standard size frame. If there's a piece you'd like to purchase and have framed, please contact me for framing and shipping costs.

Shipping
I create each of my pieces myself, by hand, one at a time. Everything on my Etsy site is already made and ready to ship; you are getting the exact artwork pictured. My shipping time is listed for all items as 1-3 days until it leaves my studio, plus shipping time, just in case I am out of town doing an art fair and can't attend to an order immediately; in most cases, I will be able to send out your purchase the day you order it. Please contact me with any questions regarding time needed for your order; I will do my best to insure your order arrives when you need it. You will find the option to select expedited shipping available at check out. Custom orders require longer time frames; contact me to discuss when you need it by and how long it will take for me to create it.

All orders will be shipped via USPS. To keep costs as low as possible, I do not add additional insurance, delivery confirmation, etc. If you would like additional services that you don't find available at check out, and they are available for your country, please let me know and I will add the additional costs to your invoice. Also, each country has varying rules and fees regarding customs fees; these are the responsibility of the order recipient.
Additional policies and FAQs
Where possible, I do accept custom orders. Good ideas include an alternate color selection for a scarf style already featured, alternate dimensions or fabric type, variation of style (my most popular hand-painted florals are irises and sunflowers, but other flowers are good options, as are dogs and other animals, as I often do scarves featuring pets and wildlife). I am happy to discuss any and all ideas you might have. I will send you photos for approval before shipping any custom order.

I do accept wholesale clients with brick and mortar locations.

If you would like your purchase sent directly to a gift recipient, I am happy to do that, and will wrap and package your gift appropriately.
