Creative Glory and Our Love Story ~ Combine Art and Silliness, and HERE WE ARE!

Hi, I am Thalia and this is my story.
Ever since I was a child, I have been passionate about arts and crafts.
I was very lucky to have my mom, who supported me in my endeavours! I had an old-school metal cabinet full of all kinds of art supplies, from paper crafts, beads, modelling clay..
My mom used to sew my clothes when I was little, it was a fun game, she would sew, I would watch, she would explain along the way..
As I grew older, I felt a dreaded weight on me as the expectations of society inquired, what do you want to be? What do you want to do?
In my heart it was clear, I wanted to be an artist. Well, I already was one, as far as I was concerned!
But, it's not like art is on the vocational list along side medical school or architecture..
So, through innocent eyes, having the impression I could never be free to express myself, I felt displaced in the world, and that's around when I got cancer.
That whole story started when I was 12 and ended with a big happy ending when I was 16, that's 20 years ago today. Maybe some of you have noticed a scar on my neck in some of the photos, well, that's how I got it..
They said, I had 4 months to live and 10% chance of making it. Surprise!!!
It was quite a ride, I wouldn't change a thing because this experience taught me 3 things.
1. Life is a gift. All we have is the moment! Just do it.
2. You can be whoever and whatever you want as long as you don't harm anyone.
3. Art. This experience taught me a lot of art!!!
Yes. I was super lucky because with my godfather's influence and support I managed to get into Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Lucky because I got the best care and because of the Recreation Room on the 14th floor of the building, with its lovely ladies teaching everything from copper enamel in a kiln, to flower arranging, welding, jewelry making, you name it.
As you can imagine, I was up there - a lot. When I wasn't at the hospital, I was at the McDonald House, a guest house for kids with cancer who were away from home. It was fun, like living in a big hotel with all of your friends!
If you think my view point is overly optimistic, well, that's how I stayed alive.
At the McDonald house they also had jewelry making classes. I was so supported! I was given lessons, supplies, anything I needed..
And there and then, in N.Y. in 1998 I started to make jewelry of high quality materials, with proper skills, and sell to people I had met while I was there.
So, 5 surgeries and 9 months of chemo and radiation later, I was cancer free, I knew who I was, and how valuable my time here is. And that's how jewelry making started for me.
Skip to 2005. I am on Samothrace island, Greece. Wearing a coat I made out of pieces of 4 pairs of jeans I had chopped up. I met a man who was a Greek fashion designer.
He demanded to know who made the coat, and when I told him it was me, he asked what school I had gone to. When I said that I just watched my mom make my clothes when I was little, he was beside himself! He said, "Shame on you! With your talent, you should drop anything you are doing and go study fashion design"!!!
So I did. I finished my school 3 years later, first in my class and best student of the whole school. I had decided, if I'm in school again and my own choice, I will excel.
With my love of nature and its elements, a childhood bookcase of fairies, mermaids and magical creatures, and a desire to create innovations, designs both new and unusual, I was up and ready to go!
In 2012,a new world began for me.
I met Alessandro.
He was and is, by far, the most exceptional person I have ever met, for so many reasons and in so many ways. He taught me so much and led me to peace within myself, he is my greatest joy.
Our union was like when a star explodes and creates a new galaxy!! When I met Alessandro, my main focus was multifunctional clothes, and macrame necklaces with semiprecious stones. I had a book on the healing properties of the stones, too.
Little did I know that Alessandro was up to his ears in stones! He did crystal healing sessions, and other alternative healing techniques like reflexology etc.
Alessandro had an MPHIL in Philosophy, and had been working with a university when he dropped it all to follow a calling and explore alternative healing.
Although he was always very creative and artistically able, he had only had the chance to experiment through ceramics. His creations were beautiful!
We instantly connected our lives into one, teaching each other everything we knew, doing everything together, a 24/7 togetherness full of joy and beauty!
As it turns out, Alessandro does amazingly well at everything he tries. He learned how to sew, he learned how to make jewelry, and we do it all together, sharing, making our own pieces or finishing each others, always having fun and catching every chance at some silly action to make the other chuckle!
We married on May 11, 2019.
We continue to learn and try new things, always keeping it fresh!
