My 100% nylon velvet ribbon is a soft and re-tie velvet. A polishing cloth comes as a bonus with items of silver or gold. Lake Tahoe jewelry is designed for an active lifestyle from day to evening.

My jewelry is sold at the Nevada Museum of Art gift shop in Reno, Nevada and local stores. A piece of my art from my other shop - RiverLilyArt has been purchased for the ETSY Collection in San Francisco. It is a weaving similar to those in my shop.

Rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces are all made by me, an artist, metalsmith and painter as well. I buy locally cut stones when available. I purchase recycled precious metals from a company who is a certified member of the Responsible Jewelry Council. That means the majority of the metals are recycled or from mines that adhere to responsible practices. My goal is to make lasting and affordable, beautiful hand forged jewelry which has also had as small an environmental and social impact on our planet as I can accomplish. If it is worth doing. it is worth doing well with lasting materials and beautiful design. I use Opals, Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli and other semi-precious to precious stones.

INFORMATION ON PRECIOUS METALS
GOLD and SILVER MARKINGS - What you need to know about precious metals.
Because gold is so costly, if the item you are purchasing isn't expensive - Buyer Beware. If it is costly, make certain they are calling it what it actually is such as Vermeil which is 24K plated gold, not solid gold. The term 1/20 or 1/10 10K, 1/10 12K, 1/10 14K has to deal with the government regulation of the amount of gold that must be in a piece of jewelry. This is Gold-filled jewelry. I will always list "gold-filled" if it is indeed gold-filled. 14K gold WITHOUT the 1/10 or 1/20 means it is solid 14K gold with 58.3% pure gold plus alloys to harden for rings, etc. 18-karat gold is 75% Au and may be called 750. So 75% pure gold plus alloys to harden it for jewelry. This will appear slightly more golden yellow than the 14K and the closer you get to 22K all the more yellow and softer. The purest form of Gold considered 24 karats is equal to roughly 99.9% pure. A ring of this metal is considered too soft for daily wear. 10K is also a cheaper option sometimes seen.

GOLD-FILLED also called rolled-gold. These jewelry items are not actually filled with gold. They are made of a base metal (usually brass or copper) covered by sheets of gold in a mechanical bonding process. Effectively a thick coat of gold: the gold content is 5% or 1/20 of the total weight. Usually made with 14k gold, it is hard wearing. With reasonable care it will not peel or flake, and should last as long as solid 14k gold jewelry. It is safe for most people with sensitive skin. Gold filled items are regulated by the government. These items are therefore so much better then gold plated which has no regulations at all. Gold filled wears, looks and lasts like solid gold because its outer surface IS solid gold. Everything you can see and touch is pure gold. In the jewelry industry the quantity of gold must be at least 1/20th by weight of the total product. A tag might read - 1/20 14K or 120 10K for example. It may not say Gold Filled or GF and still be legally labelled. An item of this gold would cost much less than a 14K or 18K ring for instance.

GOLD-PLATED A base metal such as steel or brass is dipped into a bath of electroplating solution, with a lump of solid gold. When an electric current is applied, a thin layer of gold is deposited on the metal. Since the plating is quite thin, the plate (and therefore the color) on findings can wear off.

VERMEIL (Pronounced: Vermay) is sterling silver that has been gold-plated. Most of our vermeil is plated with 22 K-24 K gold. This is a good combination for those with allergy to normal, plated jewelry items. The difference between vermeil, and gold-filled, is in the thickness of the gold and the base metal used. In vermeil, the base is sterling silver.

CARE Gold jewelry reacts with chlorine. Never take your gold jewelry into a pool or spa.

STERLING SILVER is a mixture of pure silver and some other metal, usually copper. The resulting alloy gives the silver strength. The standard is at least 92.5% silver. Therefore, the .925 stamp you see on some sterling silver items. I most often make my jewelry of Sterling Silver.

FINE SILVER is usually 99.9% Pure Silver. Because of this it is soft and cannot be used in long wearing items such as rings. I use it for monogram charms with sterling silver jump rings.

ARGENTIUM STERLING SILVER is a modern sterling silver alloy with 93.5% pure silver, Argentium meets the legal standard to be quality-marked as sterling silver. All Argentium is made from reclaimed silver and its sources are guaranteed by Argentium International Ltd. You will see some Argentium silver but it is still new. I offer Argentium Silver ear wires on some of my earrings and cuffs. You may request it for ear wires. I also offer Niobium, a non-reactive metal on some of my earrings if requested for people with sensitivities.

If you read this far I congratulate you for sticking to that lengthy lesson. I want you to be an informed shopper on ETSY!
