About

Moving, breathing, Making Silks

I discovered dancing with silk veils with a Sufi Master, Adnan Sarhan, who used veil meditation as a form of moving meditation. Since most of us sit behind desks for too long it is his way of bringing people into the moment and exercising all their muscles, developing grace and feeling happy. In the past we never had enough veils for the whole group. One year I wanted to change from part time jobs to something that would be more about my life and all I could think of was "color, dancing, workshops, traveling and lightness". Within a few weeks I cut my first bolt of silk and never looked back. I sold to all the people in the workshops and soon I was witnessing huge groups of people, men and women, dancing into ecstasy with my veils. It was like watching a Monet in motion. It allowed me to travel and this began a long journey of dancing with the veil all over the US, Europe and Australia. And during the summer I would dye veils under the trees outside. It was very gratifying to see people become so happy dancing with the veils. The business grew and I think I was one of the first to sell online at Nahari Silk Veils. It was a frenzy of business, dancing and dyeing. As things changed people started to want to wear the veils and use them as scarves, as covers for their acupuncture clients, as throws while in meditation, skirts, sarongs. I saw so many uses for the silks and loved the versatility and ease of traveling with them. I travelled to Asia and watched them make the silks and discovered different types of silk that could be so comfortable to wear and help small communities keep their crafts and independence. Silk is a beautiful substance to work with. It is very sensitive and using very light silk creates the possibility of floating and an extraordinary lightness of being. I am grateful for the silks. It is a continuation of my early days as a sculptor and painter. Color is a phenomenal thing to work with. To see people moving and breathing and developing a relationship with the silk that makes them breathe deeply and move freely is precious. I like to keep experimenting with silks and all my customers have and are helping to keep the creativity flowing and the wonderful independence that comes with being your own boss.

Hi. Born in Australia, I was a sculptor, for a while and spent a lot of time with artists. My life in the US began a spiritual path and this is where I discovered hand-dyeing silk. I dance - a lot with the silk veils.
