Cheerful Brooches for a Colorful World

Tangerine Menagerie started in the spring of 2015 as an idea to bring little bits of handmade sunshine and happiness to gloomy days, inspired by the novelty brooches of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Julia started transforming layers of clear plexiglass, shiny resin, and vibrant paints into bold, colorful brooches to brighten every outfit in an effort to add a little magic into lives and wardrobes. From tropical lagoons to rabbit holes to enchanted kingdoms, each of our brooches has a story to tell, and we hope they’ll help you tell yours!

Welcome to Tangerine Menagerie! Thank you so much for taking the time to review our shop policies. If your question is not answered here, please get in touch via Etsy message. We reply to messages Monday-Friday.

Returns and exchanges
- Returns and Exchanges -
Our first priority is that you are thrilled with your purchase! If you are unhappy with your item for any reason, please contact us within 48 hours of receipt to arrange a return or exchange. If you wish to exchange for another brooch, that piece must be in stock at the time of the exchange. Returned items must be postmarked within seven days of delivery and must be in their original, unworn condition. You will be responsible for paying return shipping costs, and we highly recommend using a tracked and insured shipping service, as we cannot be responsible for lost return packages. A refund less original shipping will be processed once we receive the item.

- Missing Packages -
Although they will usually arrive earlier, please allow up to 15 days from the date of shipment for domestic orders to arrive. For international shipments, please allow 40 days. In the event that your package does not arrive by that time, contact us and we will either refund or re-ship your order. You may be asked to sign a form for our insurance company verifying the non-receipt of your order before we will process your refund or re-ship your package.
Items marked 'delivered' on your tracking are considered delivered; we are not responsible for stolen packages. Please check with your local post office, neighbors, or anyone else living at your residence to see if the package may have been misplaced. We highly recommend reporting suspected mail theft to your Postal Inspector. For international buyers, your package may be held by your local post office or customs office for payment of import fees or taxes, which must be paid before you can collect it.

- Reviews -
It's extremely important to us that you are thrilled with your purchase and with our customer service! If you are unhappy with an order, please contact us before leaving a review; we want to make sure your experience is a positive one and will work with you on a resolution.

- Items Damaged in Transit -
If you receive an item which has been damaged during its journey to you, you may return it for a replacement or refund. We will cover the cost of return shipping. Please contact us immediately upon receipt with clear photos of the damage and original packaging. You may be asked to provide information for our insurance company before receiving a refund or replacement.
Payment
- Checkout -
We accept payment through PayPal as well as all major credit cards, debit/bank cards, Etsy gift cards, Apple Pay, Google Wallet, iDEAL and Sofort. All payments must clear before your order ships.

- Sales Tax -
Sales tax will be automatically added at checkout for orders being shipped within Washington State.
Shipping
- Processing Time -
Orders will ship within five business days of receiving cleared payment. If you need your order by a specific date, please contact us prior to purchase so we can discuss if delivery by that date is possible.

- To the US and United States Territories -
We ship via USPS Priority Mail, which will typically arrive in 1-3 days depending on your location. Domestic packages valued at over $200 will include signature confirmation.

- To All Other Countries -
We ship via USPS First Class Mail International for all packages valued less than $400, which will typically arrive in 14-21 days to most locations. For packages valued at over $400, we must use USPS Priority Mail International, which will typically arrive in 6-10 days. Please understand that these delivery time-frames are estimates provided by the US Postal Service and that we are unable to guarantee delivery dates.

- Shipping Address -
We ship to the address provided on your Etsy receipt unless other arrangements have been made in advance. Please double-check your shipping address with Etsy before you finalize your order! We are not responsible for misdelivered or undelivered packages where the shipping address given to us was incorrect. Packages returned to us because of an incorrect address may be reshipped at the customer's expense or refunded less the original shipping cost.

- Gifts -
We love knowing that our brooches are destined to be gifts and are happy to ship directly to the recipient - just fill in their address during checkout! We can also include a note in the package; let us know what to say in the 'message to seller' box at checkout.

- Customs and Import Taxes -
Import fees, duties, handling fees, customs charges, or any other charge imposed by your government are the buyer's responsibility, and in accordance with US and international laws, we will not falsify customs forms. You can use an online duty calculator or contact your country's customs office directly to help estimate what import fees your purchase might incur in your country.

Items returned to us for nonpayment of import fees will be refunded less original shipping cost upon their safe return. Refused or abandoned packages often take several months to be returned to the sender.

If you live in the United Kingdom, please be aware that the import threshold in your country is very low (meaning that you may pay taxes even on small purchases), and that the Royal Mail Post Office may also choose to levy an additional £8 handling fee for imports from outside of the EU.
Additional policies and FAQs
- Purchase Limits -
To foster a more equitable shop environment, we request a purchase limit of two per design per customer per two week period, except where otherwise noted in the listing.

- Buying Handmade -
Julia designs, paints, assembles, and coats each brooch with resin by hand. This means that there will be small differences and imperfections in each piece. We use stock photos in our listings, so your brooch may vary slightly from the one shown. Please note that while we make every effort to take the most accurate photos possible, there will be some variation in colors due to individual paint batches and different monitor settings.

- Care -
We use high-quality materials in the construction of these pieces, and they should hold up well to regular use with proper care. These brooches are water-resistant, but not waterproof, so always remember to remove them before swimming or bathing, and avoid otherwise immersing them in water. Contact with perfumes, lotions, sunscreens, or other similar products may damage the finish. Plexiglass is a durable material but may break if dropped, struck, or snagged, so always wear and handle your brooch with care, and be especially mindful with things like handbag straps or seatbelts that might catch on it. You can use a soft, dry cloth to clean the surface (an eyeglasses cleaning cloth works beautifully).

- Allergies -
Our brooches are made in a smoke-free but dog-friendly studio.

- Holding Orders -
Please note that we will not be holding orders in the month of September, 2017.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make me a custom brooch, or can you change the size or color of a brooch that you already make?

Unfortunately, we do not accept custom orders.

The brooch that I want is sold out! Will you make more?

Probably! It may take several months for us to restock sold out designs, but most of them will be back. We do retire designs from time to time to make room for new pieces, and seasonal pieces are only available for a limited time, so if there's a brooch you can't live without, we recommend buying it when you see it. Julia makes retirement and restocking announcements through Instagram (@tangerinemenagerie) and Twitter (@tangerinebrooch).

I had a brooch in my cart, but it was gone before I finished checking out. What happened?

Etsy does not hold the items you place in your cart for you, so if more than one person puts the same item in their cart, the first customer to complete checkout will be the one who gets it. We recommend using the Buy It Now button for the fastest possible checkout experience.

Can I place a pre-order for a design that is sold out or that I saw is coming soon?

We are not accepting pre-orders for any designs, nor do we set brooches aside prior to their release on Etsy.

Can you put a brooch on hold for me?

Right now, the shop operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so we do not accept pre-orders or set items aside. We try to keep all designs in stock as much as is possible, so most brooches will be back if you miss them!

Can you combine shipping for two or more separate purchases?

Yes! We will automatically combine any orders going to the same shipping address. We will refund shipping overages at the time of shipment.

Do you accept wholesale orders?

At this time, our production capacity is such that we are only selling direct to customers, and we do not offer any bulk pricing. We may look into wholesale vending in the future, but do not currently know when or if wholesale-level production will be realistic for us.
