Hi, I'm Tara, the artist behind Celosia Studios. Years ago I got into drawing mandalas as a form of meditation. One day, I got the idea to burn a mandala into a piece of wood and I went and bought a soldering iron from Home Depot to try it out. Eventually I learned that Pyrography (wood-burning) is an actual art form and they make special tools for it. That year, I made wood-burned gifts for my family members and my brother and husband chipped in and gifted me an actual pyrography machine!

I find wood-burning to be grounding and meditative, due to the natural elements of the wood and even the smoke it produces. I'm drawn to the organic nature of plants, flowers and the natural world, but as a yoga teacher also enjoy creating spiritual/metaphysical themed art.

I named my business Celosia Studios based on a personal story: I had planted some Celosia flowers one year and my first dog, Ozzy would pee on them every time he went out. I thought for sure they'd wither and die, but instead they morphed into the largest Celosia I've ever seen. That same year, Ozzy passed from cancer. The following year my Celosia (which are an annual) came back! I've since learned they can self-seed and come back if conditions are right, but the sight of them after losing Ozzy was such a gift! The name Celosia originated from the Greek word for "burning" due to the flame-like flower head so it seemed like an appropriate name for a pyro business!
