About

I Have Been Sewing and Crafting Ever Since I Could Hold a Needle and Thread!

All the ladies in my family were talented seamstresses, quilters and needlewomen. They taught me all I know!

I see inspiration in the past, including old quilts and embroidery. Simple fabrics like muslin, homespuns, and calicos are essential in most of my creations. When I was growing up, I was surrounded by all the utilitarian pieces that were used all the time by my grandparents. The old graniteware, enamelware, stoneware, wooden crates and painted handle kitchen utensils are so familiar and dear to me.

I find a great comfort in seeing and surrounding myself with those same items from long ago. Both sets of my grandparents were farmers, truck gardeners and artisans. My paternal grandfather was a skilled carpenter and my Mom's father was a stone mason.
Old barns and barnwood make my heart sing! I think it would be awesome to travel back to that much simpler time when all they had was handmade and heartfelt!

My mission is to re-use, reproduce and upcycle pieces of the past so they can be useful and appreciated yet again. I am dedicated to making beautiful accent pieces for your home.

I am proud to be a member of the Etsy Teams 'Folkart and Primitive', and 'Handmade and Heartfelt Artists' as well as 'Christmas in July'. These teams include many Artisans who have gathered together to promote one another and share our love of handmade goodies. To see some of the groups' wonderful handcrafted creations, search Etsy for: TeamHAHA, or FAAP, or CIJ

Welcome to TattersandScraps! Hi, my name is Connie, and I’m so glad you stopped by!
I enjoy taking pieces from the past and reinventing them so they can be used again. Each of my items is handmade using vintage, antique and new fabrics and embellishments, with that sense of country warmth and love. Here you’ll find all kinds of decorative goodies, like bowl fillers, pinkeeps, shelf tucks, rag balls, make do’s, cupboard hangers, little pillows, pieced goods, and more. Everything is designed and made by me in my smoke free, pet-friendly craft/sewing studio.

I love all things country, including cottage, shabby, and primitive. To me, that style represents a simpler, gentler time when the world made sense; when creativity and handmade items were the norm in many rural households. Warm, hand pieced and sewn quilts covered all the beds providing cozy comfort. Candles quietly lit dark corners, kids played on richly colored wood plank floors, clothing was simple, and freshly made bread baked in the old wood stove. That’s the best smell in the world!!

So have fun shopping for treasures to decorate your own home! New items are added often.
