A Small Business Big Into Wood
I love to work with wood and enjoy custom orders. Some of the custom orders I have been asked to do have been challenging, but in the end, it has been worth the work. I like a challenge and with each piece I create, there is the challenge of maintaining excellent quality that will exceed customer's expectations. I started my shop as a way to supplement income for my family. I enjoy the flexibility that it gives and the rewarding factor of being able to look on each masterpiece and have a great sense of satisfaction.
I originally started my shop and woodworking skills by creating small wooden pallet replicas that are fashioned after heavy duty pallets that are used in warehouses, loading docks, and storerooms across the US. I sold them as individuals and as coaster sets. I have perfected the replicas and coasters over the course of time and I have been able to save up for other woodworking tools and increase my line of products. My main tool that I enjoy using is my 16" scroll saw. This is the tool that I use most often with my wood cutting projects.
I must give credit to my lovely wife for the idea of cutting out states and selling them. This was the first product I began using my scroll saw with. After selling numerous states, people began asking for countries and so I added the option of countries as a separate listing. I have done 34 individual states (if you include my floor puzzle, I have done all 50) and 23 countries (yes, I have done the Philippine Islands - that was an enjoyable challenge). I have also done custom orders for specific islands such as Oahu, Hawaii; and I have also done cities such as Washington, D.C. and Honk Kong.
I have recently began doing wooden letter cutouts. Right now, I only have one, simple font but am working to perfect a more fancy font to make available.
I typically leave my products unfinished (no paint, no stain, no finish of any kind) so that customers can personalize them to suit their style and taste by not locking the product into only one style. I have had customers use my products for art projects, personal home projects, and many other projects that require personalizing them in a way that I can't.
