Bring the whimsy back to your life!

I spent seven years in college trying to myself. I finally graduated with a degree that I wasn't totally excited about, and with no idea what to do with my life. At the same time, I transitioned from high-pace job to a work-from-home position as I needed time to heal from a life-changing illness. Working from home can be awesome, but it can also be incredibly lonely and repetitive. Don't get me wrong, I love spending my day with my cats, but sometimes you miss talking to someone that can understand you and you miss being creative.

I had this discussion with my grandma and my aunt, and they suggested that I find a hobby to fill up my off time and nurture my creative side. My aunt and grandma, who were already vendors at craft shows, invited me to help them make crafts and sell anything I make at their shows. Inspired, I took to the internet, wanting to make jewelry of some kind.

After weeks of trial and error, I finally fell in love with sewing earrings. It was a combination of cross-stitch (which I love) and bead embroidery. I spent months trying out patterns, developing my own patterns and tearing my hair out when the beads just wouldn't do what I wanted. It was quite a journey, but I made a handful of earrings and attended my first craft show with my aunt.

Happily, my earrings sold! People loved my designs and were excited to find something different and unique. I was so grateful, because this gave me a chance not only to get out of the house and meet people, but to tap into a creative side of myself that had been dormant for way too long.

Now, I spend every Thursday with my grandma and my aunt. We craft, we laugh, and we have a great time. I absolutely adore my Thursdays, as I cherish every moment I spend with my family! It has also given me a chance to expand my crafting into other niches like wreaths, flower arranging and even polymer clay jewelry!

My aunt and I loved the craft show scene, so we have continued to attend in the spring, fall and winter. In addition to this, I decided to open up Tea Cakes and Posies, to make it easier for people to find us and follow our craft show schedule.

Thank you for reading and God bless!

Cleaning your arrangements

Flower arrangements are eternally beautiful, but they do sometimes attract dust. There are two easy ways to dust your arrangement and keep it looking like new!

1) Open a window, or head outside with your flower arrangement and your hair dryer. On the coldest setting, gently blow the flowers with the hair-dryer. This will send the dust flying, so make sure to hold the flower arrangement outside of the window, or away from you when you are standing outside.

2) If you have panty-hose, place a leg over your vacuum's extension rod. Very gently, vacuum the flowers on your arrangement. This method can damage delicate flowers, so make sure to take your time and keep the vacuum from sucking the flowers too much.

Hope these methods help!
