About

From Grandma's Basement

So, my Grandmothers didn't actually have basements... on the Gulf coast of Texas you'd end up with an underground pool! Both of my Grandmothers were great influences in my love for vintage housewares. They also both taught me, in their own ways, how to live a simple life and to avoid waste. Finding a new use for something old is the focus of my shop and my art. Sometimes things just need to be passed on to find a good home. Sometimes old stuff needs to be seen in a new light to be useful again. I try to do both!

I've said that I wanted to own a vintage resale shop since I was about 14. At the time my city had Goodwill and fine antique stores, but nowhere in between. Of course, things have changed and we now have a great community of vintage resalers. What I imagined in my teens is now a reality.

My husband is my team-mate and my support. We have spent countless hours together at garage sales, thrift stores, curbsides and flea markets. He helps me, mainly by providing extra hands and heavy lifting, but he's developing an eye for funky vintage things! The first time he came into an antique store with me he said "Oh my gosh, this smells just like Grandma Annabelle's basement." At the time I was toying with a physical store, and it just hit me- I've got to name it Grandma's Basement! Years went by and I finally was able to reach that dream, the Brick and Mortar business. Sometimes though, things aren't suited for the market I am in. Etsy helps me reach a variety of collectors who might never visit Beaumont, Texas.
The Technicolor Owl is that offshoot, the bright, funky side of things!

I've spent my life in Beaumont, Texas. We're on the Gulf Coast and Louisiana border; we've got the best people and food. I love my sons, husband, shih tzus, cats, my house, vintage goods and the hunt for them. I love USA made pottery and glassware.

Shop policies

Last updated on March 31, 2016
Thanks for taking the time to look at my items. Being such a visually driven person, I thrive on having pretty, fun and interesting things around me. Basically, I sell what I love. Thanks to my eclectic nature, there's sure to be a little bit of everything. I want to make sure that anyone who buys from me is as happy with their item as I am. This means carefully packing each item, combining shipping if applicable and making sure everything gets sent off on time. If there is anything I can do to improve my shop, that will be my goal.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I accept paypal and major credit cards. Please provide payment or communication regarding payment arrangements at time of purchase. I will do my best to contact anyone who has made a purchase without payment. If you don't respond after 3 days, I will cancel the sale.

Sometimes very sad things happen and an item will have been damaged as it was being stored. I will check the item carefully as I pack it and will absolutely let you know if anything is different than described. In that case, I'm more than willing to work out a discount or cancel the order.

I think conversations are one of the best features available on Etsy. Please convo me about anything and everything!! I've had great experiences with both buyers and sellers simply because we are able to communicate efficiently.
Shipping
I will ship USPS within 3 days of receiving payment. I pack my items carefully to protect you. I ship using USPS Priority Mail, which automatically includes up to $50 of insurance. If needed, I can always add additional insurance, and often do automatically on high-priced piece. If you have a preferred carrier, I can accommodate your needs, and will be happy to discuss specifics such as price via Conversation. I have done my best to estimate a flat shipping price that will be fair to anyone in the US.
Refunds and Exchanges
Because my items are vintage or handmade, they are sold as is. I carefully look over everything as I find things, as I clean them, as I photograph them and as I ship them. I am committed to honesty and will disclose anything that I notice as being abnormal or a flaw. If a problem arrises due to shipping, I would prefer to deal with this on a case by case basis. Claims can be filed with the USPS under most circumstances but I make no guarantees. I want this to work out so that everyone has a positive experience and will do my best to make it so. Again, convo's are a great tool!!
