Una de mis posesiones favoritas es una muñeca Raggedy Ann hecha a mano que he tenido desde que era pequeña, más pequeña que la muñeca, de hecho. Ahora es un poco áspera en los bordes, pero todavía me hace sonreír. En estos días pertenece a mi hija, que le sonríe cada vez que espía a Raggedy desde su cuna.

Siempre he sido más feliz cuando estoy perdido en el proceso de crear algo nuevo y me encanta soñar despierto que las cosas que hago se convertirán en una fuente de comodidad y diversión para sus nuevos propietarios. Me gusta pensar que la colcha o el juguete se quedará con ellos y se convertirá en un recordatorio tangible de la infancia, al igual que Raggedy es para mí.

Todo lo que hago está destinado a ser usado y amado. Las colchas solo se vuelven más suaves a medida que envejecen; los juguetes se vuelven aún más entrañables cuando está claro que se juega con ellos a menudo. Por estas razones, trabajo duro para asegurarme de que las cosas que hago estén bien hechas, sean fáciles de cuidar y, lo más importante, sean agradables de mirar y tocar.

He estado cosiendo durante varios años, lo que se ha convertido en mi principal salida creativa, pero siempre me ha encantado ser creativa. De que mi madre me enseñara a bordar, a club de ganchillo en 5º grado; clases de arte en la escuela secundaria y luego enseñándome a coser y tejer, me encanta encontrar nuevas técnicas y medios con los que trabajar. Para mí, el siguiente paso lógico ha sido abrir mi tienda y comenzar a hacer lo que amo como algo más que una búsqueda tranquila en casa.

One of my favourite possessions is a handmade Raggedy Ann doll that I've had since I was small - smaller than the doll, in fact. She's a little rough around the edges now, but she still makes me smile. These days she belongs to my daughter, who grins at her whenever she spies Raggedy from her crib.

I've always been happiest when I'm lost in the process of creating something new and I love to daydream that the things I make will go on to become a source of comfort and fun for their new owners. I like to think that the quilt or toy will stay with them and become a tangible reminder of childhood, much like Raggedy is for me.

Everything I make is meant to be used and loved. Quilts only become softer as they age; toys become all the more endearing when it's clear they're played with often. For these reasons, I work hard to make sure the things I make are made well, are easy to care for and, most importantly, are pleasing to look at and touch.

I've been sewing for a number of years now, which has become my primary creative outlet, but I've always loved being creative. From being taught to embroider by my mother, to crochet club in grade 5; art classes in high school and later teaching myself to sew and knit, I love finding new techniques and mediums to work with. For me the next logical step has been to open my shop and start doing what I love as more than just a quiet pursuit at home.
