Announcement   I have been very remiss in keeping up with my shop. I have remedied that by linking my web page (www.tempestinateapot.net) directly here so I only have to keep the listings updated in one place. YAY ME! All of our jewelry is made from vintage silver plate flatware made in the late 1800's to the mid 1970's. Did you know that silver plate flatware is not even made in the USA any more? That is sad. The artistry on some of these designs (especially 1880-1920's) is Ah-maz-ing! So come on, be bold, wear a piece of American history! Check out what else we do at https://www.tempestinateapot.net

About

Life is too short to wear boring jewelry

My partner and I started Tempest in a Teapot in 2000 making strictly wind chimes made from up-cycled silver plate hollow ware and flatware (which can been seen on our regular website - link below). I have always wanted to make jewelry so I took a class in silver fusing at BeadFest Philadelphia about 4 years ago and I was hooked. I have had much trial and error trying to take "formal" jewelry rules and turn them towards silver plate in order to preserve what is now a lost art in America as the United States no longer produces silver plate flatware.

The patterns that I will be featuring on here will date from 1880 - 1960. Think of that. Pieces of art made from items that are 50 - 100 years old. Where have they been? Who has eaten from them? The stories they could tell!

I have been lucky enough to find a source for them, but the stock won't last forever. These elaborate designs are always the first to go when I have them, so if you see a pattern that you love, DON'T WAIT. I saw a sign in an antique mall in Alabama once. It said "The time to buy an antique is when you see it". Don't let that special piece get away.

Be bold! Wear a piece of American history.

I am not a formally trained jeweler. What I know I have gleaned from many sources, including Susan Lenart Kazmer, Thomas Mann, and,my personal mentors, Beth Ann Judge and Richard Savage. I Hope you enjoy my creations.

Production partners

  • Noosa Brand Snap Findings

    China

All snap parts are made in China. We choose the best quality available when selecting our parts. If these pieces were made by anyone in the USA, we would purchase from them. But alas, this type of finding is only made in China.
