About

Why Ten Thousand Oaks?

Our youngest child lived for only 28 hours. Her name is Nara, which means "Oak". We planted 500 oak saplings and many acorns in her honor. We will keep planting oaks - and other seeds of hope - for the rest of our lives in her honor. Some day we will have a forest of Ten Thousand Oaks for grandchildren.
I have taken a couple online photography classes based on photography, composition, and photo editing as a healing tool. It has helped me see all the beauty around me and find joy in the midst of my grief. I will share some of my work here in the future.
Being in nature is also very soothing to me. I have a habit of dragging home natural treasures and found out this summer that they are treasured by others for making fairy houses and other arts. I have really enjoyed collecting birch bark tubes/chimneys this summer by special request and sending them to a fairy house artist. Winter won't be good for that in specific, but I imagine you'll find I'll strap on my show shoes and bring new things during the winter, too.
I also love beads. Especially stone and glass beads. Earrings, necklaces, fan/lamp pulls...whatever I feel like making.
Organizing the creating of tiny handmade blankets, hats, wraps, and gowns for distribution to grieving parents throughout Northern Minnesota via our hospitals is another passion of mine. I've made some myself, as well. Ten Thousand Oaks etsy shop helps defray the costs of shipping blankets and providing yarn, fabric, and other materials to people with the time and skills to make the keepsakes, but not the money to buy the materials. This shop has also helped me cover costs of furthering my photography learning and tools (which is my current creative love and the focus of my creative healing) and I hope to take more classes in the future. So when you shop this little shop, you are really doing so much more. Thank you.
Looking for something in specific? Let me know. I'll see if I can be of help.

I live in far northern rural Minnesota on the Canadian border. We are surrounded by forest, a big bog, farms, and a lake so big it was almost one of the Great Lakes (Lake of the Woods). I am a wife & mom of 2 living boys and a daughter in heaven.
