So... it all started with an idea for a pair of socks.... around the beginning of 2008...............
I decided I wanted to knit a pair of striped socks and I wanted the stripes to be fairly narrow, BUT, like most knitters I HATE weaving in ends, and at this point I really hadn't even learned how to do that correctly. So instead of giving up the idea, I decided I would dye the yarn myself.... and that moment was the beginning of "Tenacious Fibers" even though I didn't know it then. I spent lots of time searching the internet for undyed yarn, dyes, which kind to use on wool?, how to figure out how to get the stripes the way I wanted them. Then the day came where the yarn and the dye arrived in the mail, and I thought "Oh crap" I guess I really am gonna do this. I had invested a lot of time, not a heck of a lot of money but enough that if I didn't follow through I would get the eye roll from the husband.
The first step was to wind the yarn. I set two of our dining room chairs out in the backyard at a predetermined distance apart that would give me the yardage I needed for each color. I am guessing I walked around those two chairs wrapping the yarn around the chair backs about 40 times.
Long story short....undoubtably the most expensive pair of socks I have ever made due to the initial investment into various required tools. Even if the yarn wasn't the highest quality, and the dye job left a bit to be desired it was definitely the most fun and most exciting project I had ever knitted up to that point.
