The Ichiban Kabari fly tied by Jason Klass of Tenkara Talk is a work of art. I am used to the simplicity of Tenkara. “One rod, one line and one fly” and the flies are “usually” very simple “work horse” reverse hackle flies. Generally all you need for this(my) type of “pocket water” fishing as the take is usually a reflex type strike as the fish don’t get to see and study the fly meander “gently down the stream”. That all said: can’t be anything wrong with offering the fish something with so much detail in Tenkara style fishing. Heck, at worse it can’t hurt and it’s nice to put on a Tenkara fly with so much detail! Nice to look at! How good is it at catching trout? “To be determined” as work keeps getting in the way of fun!
