About

WHY RATTLESNAKES?

I was born with a passion for animals, and my absolute favorite animals are rattlesnakes. They are certainly the most misunderstood creature on the planet! In particular, Crotalus atrox, or the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake is my favorite species. In my spare time, I perform rescues and relocate venomous snakes far away from people. I also keep many different species of North American pit vipers. My animals regularly shed their skin and fangs, and often cast off their rattles. Wanting to utilize these beautiful parts of the animals, I started doing crafts with them. Hence my products. Designed so that everyone can enjoy the beauty of these amazing creatures without harming them. On occasion, I come across roadkill rattlesnakes. I will not hesitate to use them in my crafts. The animals beauty can live on even though it has passed away, and wearing parts of it could spark conversation about why these animals should NT be killed.

Benefits of healthy rattlesnake populations:
1. The venom proteins of rattlesnakes is currently being used in medicines like eptifibatide, and is a treatment for minor heart attacks and/or severe chest pain. This medicine works by helping to dissolve (and/or prevent the formation of) blood clots. Much research is currently being done on using rattlesnake venom in modern medicines.
2. Rattlesnakes eat mice and rats, which can spread hanta virus, lyme disease, salmonella typhus and bubonic plague.
3. Rattlesnakes prey on wild rodents, such as prairie dogs, chipmunks, wood rats, ground squirrels, deer mice and voles. All of these species can spread the bubonic plague.
4. An adult male timber rattlesnake can consume 2,500 to 4,500 ticks annually that carry Lyme disease via its prey.
