About

Creativity—A Life-Long Passion

If you were to ask Terry when he became an artist. He would say, "As far back as he can remember", he’s always had that passion, that need, that want to create things. It’s an itch that always needs to be scratched.

As a kid, he was always drawing—and then he discovered modeling clay which opened him up to creating all kinds of funny looking creatures and crazy animals that did battle with his little plastic soldiers. This was his pre-Mister Bill era. Then he grew up.

After receiving a BA in painting and drawing, continued his studies at SVA in NYC, he began a career as an illustrator— work that now spans more than 35 years. Terry's humorous illustrations are packed with energy. His dynamic style captures the action and expression of the images he creates. With a bit of mischievousness and wit, his goal is to make the viewer smile. See his whimsical images at his other shop: https://VisualTwists.etsy.com

“Working in metal clay allows me to go beyond two-dimensional space.” —Terry

After taking jewelry classes in college, his passion for jewelry design returned through the introduction of metal clay, especially Silver PMC (Precious Metal Clay). It's the way he brings dimensionality to his art. Many of his pieces are made of multiple elements that hang, dangle and swing with the movement of the body. This gives the piece life and adds an element of whimsy. He creates a sense of color and space through the use of various surface treatments — from highly polished metals to dark, textural, matte finishes.

He is passionate about making lockets—a form that can be designed from the inside and out—creating mysterious interiors and secrets that can be hidden inside. He feels that these little surprises are special gifts of the wearer who can choose to share with others. Seeing these 3D forms come alive nourishes his creativity. As he continue to work in metal clay—creating unique wearable objects, his art pieces have the unique ability to capture the inspiration he sees in the world.

Welcome to TerryKovalcikJewelry.

My jewelry work started over 15 years ago when metal clay was first introduced in the US. I have been in love with this material ever since, constantly pushing it in new directions. It is fine silver particles in a malleable clay binder which is wonderful to carve and to add surface designs and details. Plus, a few of my jewelry pieces are made in copper or bronze. My work is finely constructed, precisely finished and many are one-of-a-kind wearable statement pieces.

Recently, I started making limited-edition, sterling silver or bronze castings of my most popular jewelry. So if you're excited by what you see, thanks. And thanks for looking.
