About

Roots Give Wings

Let's start with my promise, because it's important that you know:
Everything in my Etsy shop is made by ME. Period.

I have been a "handmaker" as long as I can remember; I believe strongly that there is great value in supporting artisans who craft unique, handmade items. I've been drawn to traditional handwork since I was a kid. I came to love and appreciate how each item made by an individual tells a piece of that artist's personal story -- and how those stories can remind me of times and places I've never even been!

That little cowgirl whose photo you see all over my shop? Yep, that's me -- when I wasn't tap dancing on a Pepsi box, on a street corner in Chicago, I used to go door-to-door selling cakes I made in my Easy-Bake oven, beaded jewelry, and loop-loom potholders I "wove." I may have moved on to other "media," but I am still a proud (albeit sometimes exhausted) one-person shopkeeper.

My sewing room is a cozy, sunny room in our cheerful, art-filled Maryland home, in our county's Arts District. It’s a joyful and energizing celebration of color, texture, and print (which is a nice way of saying that it looks like a fabric store exploded in here.) This room is where all the action takes place; it's the epicenter of ThatCleverClementine -- where all the “works in progress” will be found ... including ME!

I am (at least I hope that I am) an ever changing, ever evolving "work-in-progress." Although the handwork skills that I love (sewing, knitting, feltmaking, embroidery, etc.) have their roots in the past, my motto is "Roots Give Wings." So I'm always trying something different, tweaking the recipe, learning and applying new skills, and experimenting with new tools and techniques.

I'm lucky to do what I love, enjoying the support of my family and community, and having dedicated space in which to work. I have always been drawn to, and taken much joy in, beautifully crafted items that are meant to be functional and not just attractive – things like hats, handbags and tote bags, shawls, and aprons. I love to look at these things, imagining the stories these items could tell about their owners, and the lives they led. I like to think my own work, too is -- as Jane Austen said --"sensible and clever," decorative and functional at the same time.

C'mon by the shop anytime, and see what's new. You can also drop by my Facebook page, see photos of works-in-progress, and whatever else excites me: https://www.facebook.com/ThatCleverClementine.

And don't forget to follow me on Instagram: ThatCleverClementine.

Finally, tho my blog is not as active as I would wish, if you're interested in some of my personal sewing projects and other nifty things, you can check out: http://thatcleverclementine.blogspot.com.

PS: Congratulations, you now know AllAboutClementine! As a little "thank you" for reading this far, here's a special coupon code for a 5% discount in my shop, on any order over $20! That code: ALLABOUTCLEMENTINE.

Thank you muchly for stopping by! I hope you'll enjoy That Clever Clementine's offerings; your satisfaction is important to me, and I promise to do my utmost best for you.

• Please spot clean or hand-wash items as needed, and air dry. Machine washing/drying is not recommended.

• My work space (aka "home") is pet-free and smoke-free. Finished items are stored in a clean, dry location.

• I deal with fairly small amounts of any given fabric, so usually produce 2 - 6 items more-or-less the same, though not necessarily identical. If you see a fabric of which you are particularly fond, but all the items in that pattern have been sold, feel free to convo me to see if I will be listing any additional items using that cloth.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
• I gladly accept PayPal, Etsy's Direct Checkout, or Etsy gift card.

• No PayPal account? You can pay w/credit card through PP, with or without a PP account.

Choose PayPal Option during checkout. After you submit order, click "Pay Now" button. Scroll down; you will see option to pay with Credit or Debit Card WITHOUT having to sign up for PayPal account.

• If I have not received your payment within 3 days after your order is placed, I will contact you. If no payment is received within 10 days, your order will be canceled and I will re-list the item. No items will be shipped until payments have cleared.

• Sales tax is automatically charged to Maryland residents.
Shipping
• All items ship from the United States.

• Shipping charges for multiple items appear only after you add 2nd item to Cart. (You can always remove this item from your cart, after checking shipping cost.)

PROCESSING TIME:
• Orders are processed no later than 2-3 days after payment is received. Very often, items ship the day after payment is received. If there will be a delay on my part, for any reason, I will communicate that to you right away.

U.S. ORDERS:
• Domestic shipping is USPS First Class Parcel up to 16oz, and then USPS Priority Mail after that. Stated shipping prices includes actual shipping cost, plus handling charges. Tracking information is provided. Currently, USPS states that First Class arrives in 1-3 business days, but of course they make no guarantee, nor can I.

• Shipping prices are sometimes difficult to pre-determine accurately; any excess shipping fee greater than $2 will be refunded.

• Need special shipping/handling? Please contact me BEFORE checkout to explore range of possibilities.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
• Please note that at this time, I no longer ship outside of North America.

• Canadian orders are shipped First Class Package International -- this is the most cost-effective, and allows for insurance when required, as well as tracking.

• International shipments can and do sometimes take several weeks; yes, I feel your pain.

• Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. If you live outside the U.S., there may be a customs fee added to your package by your country’s customs office. It is a buyer's responsibility to understand your country's laws in this regard, and to pay any fees; I can neither pay these fees for you, nor reimburse you for the fees.

You may want to check with your country's customs office to determine what additional costs you must pay before they release your item. This online duty calculator may help you estimate those additional costs:

PLEASE NOTE:
• If your Etsy and PayPal addresses do not match, I will ship to the PayPal address unless you tell me otherwise. Since I often ship immediately upon receipt of an order, please convo me immediately after placing your order if you want me to ship to anything other than the PayPal address.

• If the item requires special handling, or if have any other questions about shipping issues, you know what to do -- convo me!
Refunds and Exchanges
Bottom line? I take pride in my work ... and I want you to be happy!

DELIVERY PROBLEMS?
• If ten days go by (U.S. Customers), and you haven't received the item, please let me know. International customers, it could easily take 4 weeks or longer; if you haven't received your package by the end of the fourth week, please contact me.

AN ISSUE WE NEED TO WORK TOGETHER TO RESOLVE?
If you are unhappy with your order for any reason, please contact me within 10 business days of receiving your package. I promise to do my best to resolve the problem quickly. Refunds and exchanges are considered on a case-by-case basis.

• If the item is damaged in transit, please contact me immediately and I'll do my best to resolve the issue quickly.

• If an item is defective, or not as described, I will refund purchase price and shipping after I receive the item from you in excellent, unused, original condition. Please ship first class with delivery confirmation/tracking.

• For other items, if a refund is the best solution, that will be processed upon my receipt of returned item in excellent, unused, original condition. Please ship first class with delivery confirmation and contact me via Etsy convo to provide tracking info. I will refund the purchase price only; original shipping costs and return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. If the item is received by me in immediately re-sellable condition, I will refund the full purchase price. If item needs to be washed/pressed again before being resold, there will be a $4 re-stocking fee deducted from your refund amount.

• If an exchange is appropriate, buyer is responsible for returning item to me via first class mail (including delivery confirmation) at the buyer's expense. Substitute item will be shipped immediately upon my receipt of original item in excellent, unused, original condition. If item needs to be washed/pressed again before being resold, you will be charged a $4 re-stocking fee before exchange can be processed. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

NEED TO CANCEL ORDER?
• You can request a cancellation within 2 hours of purchase. Please use the Cancel Order link at ‘Your Account’ > 'Purchases & Reviews'.

• Purchases often ship on day ordered. In that case, I cannot cancel order. However, once you receive the package you can mark the UN-OPENED box as ‘Refused’ and it will return to me at no cost to you. When I receive the refused returned item, and verify that it is in original condition I will refund purchase price minus original shipping charge.

FINALLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:
The only acceptable solution is our mutual satisfaction, so please contact me before leaving neutral or negative feedback - I'm confident we'll arrive at a solution to any problem that arises.
Additional policies and FAQs
At this time, I am not accepting custom work. But if you see something you like, but would prefer different colors, you can always check with me to see what my enormous fabric stash might hold.

I might be able to produce an item or two that might fit your general specifications ... and could then list those items via reserve listings. You would then have the option to purchase or not, before I release them for sale to the general public. Please convo me to explore this option.
