My questions gave birth to my art.

I am Stephanie, the owner and artist at The Art Life Creations.

As with many things in my life, this endeavor came about because I asked too many questions.

Originally, my questions led to the redacted Bible poetry that comprises many of my prints. I asked myself why we consider the Bible sacred, and after leaving religion, could I make the Bible more meaningful and redemptive than what I had experienced it to be? From this came a determination to go through the entire Bible, and make poetry out of it.

As I began posting my poetry, I was frequently asked if I intended to publish it in book form. As I considered this, I realized I would need original art, as using whatever came up on Google would not only be unoriginal, but also may create copyright issues.

So, I began creating my own art. I realized I had a knack for it, and started doing portraits. I discovered I had a gift for capturing people in ways that made them feel beautiful, sexy, loved, validated, and seen.

I also realized it may be a source of income for me that won't further harm my already struggling body. After I had cancer in 2007, my health changed forever. I am unable to work full time outside the home. As a single parent, that has made for a profound financial struggle. By shopping with me, you are supporting a disabled single mom.

I am also bisexual, and realized this later in life because my religious upbringing didn't enable me to understand this about myself sooner. Therefore, a big part of my art is to affirm queer identities, and do so with words that have so often been used to harm people.

In redacted Bible poetry and the accompanying art, I hope to affirm and encourage people in ways that are beautiful to look at, and inspire the soul.

Through the portraits I am trusted to create, I hope to affirm people's beauty and worth, just as they are, or as they would like to be. It had been my great privilege to do portraits for transgender people who are in transition, and want a portrait that captures them as they envision themselves to be. The euphoria is real!

As a disabled, bisexual, single mom who creates art to help and heal, I am deeply grateful for those who find value in my work. Thank you for supporting me through your purchases, leaving your positive reviews, and sharing my shop with your friends, family, and social networks. I create out of love, and appreciate when you love what I create!

We're all in this together, and none of us are getting out alive. If we can make the road a little less hard to travel for each other, we should. It is my hope that my art will do that. ❤
