My Path to Sacred Energy Jewellery

For as long as I can remember, I've loved stones. As a little girl, the highlights of my summer trips to the Rocky Mountains were always visits to a gift shop in Waterton Lakes National Park, where I would pick out a handful of tumbled stones. My mom and auntie would tell me all about these gems, which were as precious to me as diamonds. At about 10, I got my first jewelry making kit. It was called "Geo Jewelry," and consisted of semi precious stone chip beads- Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, Clear Quartz, Pyrite, Hematite- and wire flexible enough that it could be bent and twisted by hand. From that kit, I made earrings for all my friends and family, and often sat for hours laying out the gems in various combinations, experimenting with colours and styles, marvelling at the beauty of nature.

When I was 20, I moved to Vancouver to go to the Emily Carr University of Art. Once there, however, I was more captivated by the mysticism on Granville Island than by art school. Every day between classes, I soaked up the amazing energy in places like Dragonspace, the psychic shops and the local artisan markets. What captured my interest most was The Crystal Ark, a tiny store shaped like a boat next to a duck pond, filled with every imaginable kind of crystal. The first time I entered it's door, I felt the energy of the stones. By the time I finished my second year of art school, I knew my future was not in drawing, painting or printmaking, but in working with crystals and energy.

In no time at all, I had read every book I could find about the spiritual properties of gems: The Book of Stones, Love is in the Earth, Gem Elixirs, Crystal Healing Handbook, The Crystal Bible, and so on.

As my interest grew into a passion, I invested in some basic wire working tools and different types of string, and through these, taught myself a few basic techniques and started selling my creations on consignment in Vancouver boutiques. I started reading more and more books about jewellery history, anthropological studies about ornamentation around the world, how-to books, and more.

Even today, when I sit down with gemstones, beads, wire and string, I get the same bubbly excitement I had as a kid perusing the tumbled stones in the mountains, and go back again and again to my favorite passages in books about gems. I hope you have as much fun browsing through my Etsy store as I do making the jewelry.

It's my commitment to make my customers happy, and I love the creative challenge of a custom order, so don't hesitate to write to me with your ideas. I can always resize or tweak any design, and look forward to hearing from you. :)
