The Base Element: Alchemy for Bath and Body
In ancient times, alchemy was a tradition that sought the ability to transmute metals into gold or silver (the 'noble' metals ). It was both a philosophy and an art, and involved aspects of mythology, magic, religion, and spirituality. Alchemists in both the Greco-Roman and Islamic worlds advanced the development of modern chemistry and medicine, through the development of basic laboratory techniques, theory, terminology, and experimental method, some of which are still in use today.
The Base Element is alchemy for bath and body. The human body is made up of base elements forged by exploding stars: oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, iron, calcium. Separately, these elements are inert. When they are combined, however, they create something magical: a human being. The alchemy has turned base elements into gold.
Creating bath and body products is also alchemy. Ordinary base materials like sodium bicarbonate, potassium bitartrate, and citric acid come together as something rare and wonderful. Essential oils and carrier oils, that have been used for thousands of years, connect us to our ancient past. It brings our ancestors closer. It shows the old wisdom is just as potent today as it was back then. It’s a little bit of magic, and who doesn’t deserve magic in their busy lives from time to time? You, my lovely, most certainly do.
We all of us, every day, absorb negative and base aspects from living in the world: anger, fear, stress, frustration, sadness, disappointment. And what do we do them? We take those base elements deep down into ourselves, transmute them, and use them to make ourselves strong again. We face another day. We turn those base elements into gold.
We are all alchemists in our own way.
