The Creative Beekeeper

I started keeping bees as a hobby in 2011 and quickly discovered what a wonderful material beeswax is - and it's a completely natural by-product of beekeeping! I do nothing to treat or alter the beeswax. It is simply separated from the honey when honey is harvested from the beehives.

Making candles and lip balm was naturally the next step after realizing how great beeswax is for candle burning and using in cosmetics. In cosmetics, it's anti-microbial. In candles, it burns cleaner, slower, and more brightly than candles you buy at the store.

Because beeswax is an exceptionally hard wax (compared to soy wax, for example), it allows me to create elaborate and detailed candles for all to enjoy.

FAQ: What is that white powder on my beeswax candles?

Bloom is something that appears only on pure beeswax. It is the natural sugars in the beeswax coming to the surface. This does not affect the candle or burn time in any way, it is purely cosmetic. Many people like the bloom because it adds an 'antique' look, but if you do not, here's what you can do: Take a warm, damp cloth and wipe the candle gently to remove the bloom.
