The cruet set is beautiful! They are the perfect size, the mushroom design is just what I pictured, and the paint is durable. This will be the perfect birthday gift for my handsome chef/mushroom forager.

It was just the bottom of a bottle that someone spray painted and put a sticker on. It looks good though and I like it.

Glass, patience, and an idea
I started working with glass completely by accident. It started because I love gardening but I’m not good at it. I had seen very successful self-watering planter systems and I wanted to make one for myself. If you haven’t heard of them before, they’re fantastic.
While I was researching I found a few planters made from wine bottles that had been broken in half. Genius! But the design wasn’t quite right for me. I wanted something that allowed more room for the plant to grow and fit my decorating style better.
I started sketching and created a design that was functional and beautiful. Now it was time to make it! This was back in 2010.
It took me a long time to become adept at cutting glass smoothly and drilling through without breaking. Once I got the hang of it, I realized that my original idea was only the beginning. I’ve come up with almost 15 different products that can be made using recycled glass bottles. The products available in my shop now are just the beginning!
In terms of aesthetics, I decided to go with a “negative image” where the design appears in glass, and the surrounding area is painted a color. All of the images on my bottles are made with a hand-cut stencil designed by me. The process to make such clear, crisp images does take some time and it’s totally worth it.
(Self-watering planters are still in process, by the way)
Glass is an amazing material. It’s sturdy, durable, and fragile all at the same time. Each piece I make is heirloom quality and created to last generations. Many of the items available in TheBottleGarden have images of botanical herbs and plants. I use their likenesses on my bottles so that you can always have a piece of nature in your home, no matter what the weather is like outside.
The pictures at the top of the page show a little bit of the process each piece goes through before it’s available on Etsy. Some pieces only go through four or five steps to reach completion, and others undergo as many as 12 different stages before they’re finished. I love every step of the process! I hope that you enjoy having these pieces in your home as much as I enjoyed creating them.
