About

Bow ties and more...

Based in North Carolina, we understand what it means to be Southern. We also understand how much a good bow tie can enhance your outfit regardless of where you’re from. Whether you're off to a formal, the office or a night out, we've got a tie that will suit you.

Bow ties are classically dapper and make a statement about the person on whom it is tied. That's right...tied. We only do self-tie bow ties. We believe that learning how to tie one gives you the confidence to wear it; which is why we say: “It’s not a style, it’s an Attitude.”

Each bow tie is handcrafted in the USA in limited quantities. Some items are made using small-cut bulk fabrics, while others are up cycled from previously rendered fabrics (shirts, ties, etc.). If a tie is marked “Limited Edition,” it will not be replaced once it sells out. The other ties are often bulk fabric, however, there is no guarantee that we will be able to restock the same fabric once we sell out. In other words, if you like it…get it now.

TheBowedTie and ALS

Your purchase matters! For every bow tie we sell, $2.00 will be donated to our local chapter of the ALS Association. Read on for more information about ALS and why we've chosen to join the fight agains ALS.

About ALS aka “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. Click here for more information.

Why TheBowedTie supports the ALS Association?
It’s simple, really. Chances are, most people don’t know what ALS is. I didn’t—at least not until my father-in-law was diagnosed with the degenerative disease. Then, I learned firsthand what ALS is. While his diagnosis and eventual death was a short period of time, there are services available for the nearly 30,000 Americans that have the disease that our family did not know about. In addition to quality of life services, the ALS Association is also leading the way in research efforts to find out what causes this disease and how to stop it. TheBowedTie is committed to helping to spread the word about this terrible disease and the efforts that the ALS Association is making to find a cure. For every tie that we sell, we will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter of the ALS Association to aid the fight against ALS.

ABOUT the ALS Association and the Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter
The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. ALSA covers all the bases — research, patient and community services, public education, and advocacy — in providing help and hope to those facing the disease.
The ALS Association (National Office and the Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter) operates under a shared mission: Leading the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.
June Thompson founded The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter in 1987 to serve the needs of ALS patients and caregivers. In 2000, the Chapter expanded its services to include South Carolina and became know as the Carolinas’ Chapter. In August of 2002, the Carolinas’ Chapter was renamed the Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter to honor a North Carolina hero and to bring further recognition to our cause. In early 2006, a new South Carolina Chapter was formed and the Jim "Catfish" Hunter Chapter service area changed. The chapter now primarily provides services for the state of North Carolina.
The Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter focuses primarily on helping local patients and families live with ALS while the National Office focuses primarily on research and advocacy. The Chapter supports the National Office through revenue sharing and research contributions. The National Office supports the Chapters by providing up-to-date information and materials.

All acceptable returns must be received within 28 days of receipt.

If your item(s) unfortunately fall within the category of an unacceptable return, we need to know immediately in case there is something we can actually do to make things right.

Please note:
Goods will only be accepted for return if they are returned within 28 days of delivery, unless we have notified you otherwise.

The item is your responsibility until it reaches us. Therefore for your own protection we recommend that you send the parcel using a delivery service that insures you for the value of the goods.

Again, the cost of returning the item to us is your responsibility. Original delivery charges will not be refunded.
Please allow 7 working days for a refund to be processed--though it usually takes much less time.

BUYING GUIDE

TheBowedTie offers three distinct cuts for most of our bow ties, Traditional (Thistle), Diamond and Batwing.

The Traditional, or Thistle, cut bow tie is, well....traditional. It's the most frequently seen and is what most people who rent a tux will get with the package. It's the 'all-around' tie that falls into the category of 'one size fits most.' If you are not particularly tall and have a thin face and profile, you may want to consider one of the other two options.

Traditional Cut: 2.75" at the widest point and tied is about 5.5" long. It features a sizing strip that makes the tie adjustable for neck sizes 13 3/4-18. This tie does not have any 'removable' features--once it's tied, it has to be untied in order to be removed.

The Diamond cut bow tie is more slim than the Traditional cut, but not as slim as the Batwing. The finished product will have diamond points on either end (one in front and one behind). This tie still fits most, but those with a more round face should probably steer clear of this one. This tie cut is a more fancy cut, but can still be worn as part of the every day wardrobe.

Diamond Cut: 2" at the widest point and tied is about 5.5" long. Each Diamond tie has a sizing strip that makes the tie adjustable for neck sizes 13 3/4-18. This tie also has to be untied in order to be removed.

The Batwing cut, which is sometimes called the slimline, is a narrow cut tie. It is a straight cut tie that, when tied, gives the appearance of a smaller, Traditional cut tie. This tie works best on people who would be ok with a 'skinny' neck tie.

Batwing Cut: 1.75" wide straight cut and tied is about 4" long. It features a sizing strip that makes the tie adjustable for neck sizes 13 3/4-18. This tie does not have any 'removable' features--once it's tied, it has to be untied in order to be removed.

Let us know if you need help picking the right tie for you. The truth is, if you are of average height and weight, it's really a matter of personal preference.
