Janet customized these trivets into potholders for me and she did a beautiful job. Outstanding and prompt service, very fair pricing and a beautiful product.

The Buckeye and the Frog: Rescuing beautiful fabrics, one piece at a time

I'm an eco-fanatic and I love beautiful fabrics. Imagine how happy I was, then, when I found a high-end fabric manufacturer who wanted to GIVE me their discarded samples, samples that would be thrown away if I didn't take them! And not just any fabric - these are expensive silks, linens, wools, cottons, and cool man-made fabrics destined for upholstery and wall coverings. They're gorgeous yet rugged and totally unlike fabrics you find in a normal fabric store like Jo-Anns.

No one has fabrics like I have, completely unique (and very expensive). I love the idea of putting these fabrics to use in everyday products such as placemats and potholders. Why shouldn't our daily items be beautiful and luxurious? And I love the fact that they're all remnants and discards. I like to think of myself as rescuing them from the landfill and giving them new life as something useful.

Join me in my quest to find good homes for my beautiful remnants. Think of them as rescue puppies - if you don't adopt them, who will?

A friendly welcome to my new customers and a warm welcome back to returning customers. If you're "just looking," that's ok, too! Browsing is always fun.

We at The Buckeye and the Frog are passionate about re-using and recycling. Most of our fabrics come from manufacturer's samples that would otherwise be thrown away - horror! In our life as in our work, we're all about reducing, reusing, and recycling.

Making our products is truly a labor of love. We want you to love them, too, so we are as customer-friendly as we know how to be. We've written out our specific policies as a guideline, but don't hesitate to get in touch with us if we haven't covered something clearly, you need an exception, you have a special desire, or anything else. We welcome your ideas, feedback and, yes, constructive criticism.

We absolutely stand by our work. If you're not happy with what you purchased, you can send it right back and we will refund your money or exchange it for another.

We guarantee our products for one year of normal use. If something happens to the item that is a function of our work, we will work with you to make it right. This goes for custom orders as well as items bought directly from the shop.
We accept payment by credit card, PayPal, check, money orders, or cashier's checks. Local Cleveland-area customers are welcome to pay in cash if they're planning to pick up their item (but please don't send it in the mail!). Your item(s) will be shipped within 2 business days of receiving payment or, in the case of a personal check, when the check clears.

We have to collect taxes on items shipped to residents of Ohio.

Should you need to cancel your order, please let us know as soon as possible via Etsy or contact [!at] We will work with you to see what the best way forward is.
To keep shipping costs as low as possible, we ship via US first-class mail so delivery will typically be 2-5 days for US customers and 5-10 for international. We are happy to make other arrangements for faster delivery and will adjust the shipping cost accordingly. We have had NO problems with delivery in the several years we've been open but cannot be responsible if items are lost or damaged in the mail.

We are also happy to include additional shipping features such as insurance, signature or other confirmation on request. We will arrange this for only the cost of the feature itself; in other words, we don't charge an additional "handling" fee.

We appreciate our international customers very much and will gladly ship to any country not embargoed by the US government, but we are not responsible for any customs charges that your country may assess on our products.

Local Cleveland-area residents are welcome to schedule a pick-up instead of delivery and we will reimburse you the shipping charges.
Additional policies and FAQs
We LOVE custom orders. If you have specific colors that you want to use, just tell us. Because we use recycled fabric we can't just go to a store and buy what you want but we usually have a pretty good selection of colors and we would be happy to email you some options.

We also invite you to send us your own favorite articles of fabric - a great shirt, your favorite jeans, your old blankie - which we can incorporate into a very personal item. Again, we would need to have some dialogue about how to make that happen and the cost. Great way to upcycle those things you're not quite ready to give up yet!

We welcome inquiries from retail stores regarding wholesale and consignment arrangements. Please contact us via Etsy messaging.
