About

Make something every day

To read my Featured Artist interview on Spin Artiste please follow this link: http://www.spinartiste.com/featured-artist-renee-jones-of-carolina-fiber-company-with-giveaway

My shop opened in January of 2012. It was a crazy year for me filled with more ups and downs than a bad roller coaster ride but we got through it in mostly one piece. It was an odd time to open my shop but if you wait for a good time then you'll always be waiting. The spinning, dyeing, washing of wool, carding and talking with my customers gave me tangible goals that I could reach and be proud of.

Our family moved from NC to Chicago in June of 2012 so I've been busy setting up and organizing the new studio along with getting to know local producers of high quality wools. Having a good relationship with the farms is important to me. Knowing the shepherds care for the animals in a way I can feel good about is of utmost importance also.

In the processing of my fibers I try to conserve water as much as possible and use earth friendly cleaning solutions to scour my fleeces. "Green" processes can be controversial and scrutinized so I just try to do the best I can on a daily basis.

Since moving to Chicago I've been working in a local yarn shop. My yarns are now being sold through this shop, Knitche in Downers Grove where I've also begun teaching dye workshops, knitting and spinning lessons.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read this. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Since a young age I've always been making things. At first it was hand stitching then later I began making clothing and quilts. After having kids I needed a portable hobby so I learned to knit and crochet which was a slippery slope into spinning.
