About

Becoming a Crafty Dwarf

This is not one of those usual profiles. I have a secret, you see. After 40-odd years on this planet as a writer and relatively ordinary British citizen who hadn't really achieved much other than a one-bar-a-day chocolate addiction, I moved to France, discovered a passion for jewellery making and turned into a bushy-bearded dwarf.

Being a woman, this was quite an unsettling change (the bearded dwarf thing, not moving to France), but on the plus side I was able to enroll myself as a student at The Crafty Dwarf workshop & jewellery school, a place of magical furnaces, singing hammers and wonderful stones. And dwarfs, of course. Lots of dwarfs.

So that's how I now spend my days. Studying and making unique hand-made jewelley and I love it. I love studying new techniques, new ways of mounting stones and bashing metal, but what really makes my hat's bobble spin is seeing the joy my jewellery brings to other people.

Of course, being a dwarf does have it's drawbacks. I have to wear a latex mask and body suit to go out in public. My beard dangles in my soup and I can no longer reach the top cupboards in the kitchen, but it's worth it to be able to make such fabulous pendants, rings, bangles and bracelets.

Besides, I've been assured that I'll change back into a human one day. I just have to kiss a frog or something. Shouldn't be too difficult here in France. :-D

My name is Karen. I'm a British expat living in France with my super supportive partner (a sexy French air force pilot - ooh la-la!), his fab family & my bonkers, overly-enthusiastic dog, Stanley. I love jewellery-making, chocolate & period dramas.

Our Return Policy in short
* Contact us The Crafty Dwarf at boss [!at] thecraftydwarf.com before returning any items.
* You can return any product within 14 days of delivery for any reason.
* The product must be in new condition.

Return Policy in detail
Please contact us at boss [!at] thecraftydwarf.com before returning any items. If you send back an item without telling us it's on its way, our dwarfs think it is a present for them and start squabbling about who opens it.

Return Conditions
You can return your product within 14 days of delivery for any reason, but it must be in new condition. Sorry, but we can't accept any items that are used or soiled or in the case of earrings where the packaging has been opened (it's a question of hygiene, you see).

If you believe an item is faulty, fails to meet its description or has been damaged in transit you must email us to tell us straight away.

To return an item please make sure that you include a note with your contact information and the reason you are returning the product then send everything to:
The Crafty Dwarf
Returns
66 Rue de Rochefort
16100 Cognac
France

(Don't worry you can write to us in English as all our dwarfs originate from the UK - they just prefer the climate here!)

Naturally, we will not be held responsible for returns that do not turn up, so please choose a suitable form of postage - possibly with some form of warranty or tracking - and package the item well.

We will refund the purchase price of any products returned in new condition (but not the original shipping fee unless we agree that the product is faulty or fails to meet its description).

In all cases you will be responsible for paying to return the item. If after investigation we decide that the item is faulty or fails to meet its description we will reimburse the cost of returning the item, up to but not surpassing the shipping fee originally paid when the item was ordered.

Transport Damage
Unfortunately, we can only re-imburse you for lost or damaged items if you choose the premium postage service with insurance. If you have chosen such a method of delivery and the product is lost or you, upon receiving it, notice that the item has been damaged during transport, you should report this to us immediately.

Unclaimed Packages
We reserves the right to charge you a handling fee to cover return shipping costs for packages that could not be delivered (for example, because you weren't home) and that have not thereafter been collected from your post office within time limits stipulated by your postie.

If you have any queries or would like further assistance please feel free to contact us at boss [!at] thecraftydwarf.com
Shipping
All our items are sent with tracking numbers and insurance and must be signed for on delivery.

Delivery times...

* Within the European Union = 3 - 5 working days
* Rest of the world = 5 - 7 working days (1).

(1) This is the time taken to reach your nation's border. Additional time will then be required to pass through customs and be forwarded to you by your local delivery network. Sadly, we have no control over any delays encountered once items have left the E.U.

----------------------------------

We ship from France, using the national postal system, La Poste. Most of our items can be delivered anywhere in the world.

Please note that custom duties may apply to international shipments outside the European Union. Sorry about that. Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with us (we dwarfs don't believe in charging money just because you want to buy a nice bit of jewellery from another part of the world), so there's nothing we can do about it. We suggest you mutter into your beard about governments, taxes and other money-grabbing meanies...
