Around the world in a single shop.

When I was younger my mother would take me through antique stores. I would pout and fuss. Whine and drag my feet. I hated antiques. They smelled. They were dusty. They were boring.

My first apartment was an Ikea sanctuary. No antiques in sight. Only poorly assembled light wood furniture and glass tabletops. I would have rather watched cars go by in front of my apartment than go antiquing.

Then, I began to focus on creative writing in my college studies. That is when something shifted. I started to appreciate not so much the items themselves but the story they brought with them. A carved Indonesian bed from 1850 has a much more interesting story than the bed frame I picked up at Target a week ago. Just holding an older item was an inspiration. It was a poem, a story, a novel waiting to happen!

Since then my love for antique and vintage items has only grown. I drive to estate sales all over San Diego County and find bits of history to bring home. I return with budding stories and questions to be answered.
The Dainty Dove is about sharing those stories with other people who enjoy a good tale.
