The Dappy Bint. Killer Vintage, Kitschy Jewelry. Lacking in Pretense.

This shop is my personal collection. There's not one single item in it I didn't make for myself or hunt down to admire quietly in my (slightly) cluttered home. My friends and family have insisted I simply cannot continue to haul all this stuff around.

Hence, I have now disowned them all.

Anywho, I digress. I reckon this is the part where I'm s'posed to project some creamy mystique to go along with my merchandise but, that's never really been my thing. I make stuff because I want to wear it. I make two or three or so (sometimes) and one is saved for me and the rest get listed for you. I tromp around thrifts and estate sales because I like old things and my extended family has always collected antiques so, I've got a pretty developed eye for the good stuff now. Thank you, Uncle Danny. xo

It's like hunting treasure. Plus, I've grown up, and remain, hmmmmm, how to phrase this delicately--- REALLY FREAKING POOR. All my clothes have always been second-hand. It used to embarrass the hell out of me as a lousy little kid. Funny how things work out.

Before Etsy I sold elsewhere. I like Etsy better. I honestly do wish there was a bit less pretense and, while on the topic of that, I'll explain a bit of the back story of the shop's name. Because, in case you couldn't tell, I'm not English. Or Australian. Or Scottish. I think maybe the Irish say it too but, I can't be positive.

I started off on Etsy as a buyer. One of my photographer friends (and the beautiful tattooed model in my shop) suggested I should sell my vintage and jewelry. I was stuck with the awful user name I'd never thought I'd use as a shop name. Etsy wouldn't let us change it.

A while ago I went through a less-than-fun period after a relationship ended. It's all well and good now and I no longer wish a pox on his house but, at the time, I was pretty well... I was pretty damned "Adele" over it.

He had, on a few occasions, referred to me as a "dappy bint" and, being an American, I didn't know what it meant right away. I soon found out (gasp) it dovetailed nicely with "mental."

I guess, maybe, re-naming the shop was kinda my way of taking something that had profoundly shamed me at that moment and turning it on it's head. It sure helped me out on The Google Machine!

Insert something about lemons and lemonade or limoncello here. Anyway, I think you're picking up what I'm laying down....

And, that's why I'm The Dappy Bint.

The shop here consumes a good bit of my time/thoughts and energy. I make everything. I hunt down everything. I pack and ship everything, 99% of the time the next day. I don't have employees or a photographer. Sometimes my two really good friends will take photos or model for me but, 99% of all my photos and modeling is done by me. I'm not saying this is some massive feat deserving of a golf clap. It may explain the wonky hand positioning in some of the ring/bracelet pics, though.

This shop is not a collective. It is a solo mom harboring a pretty dry sense of humor, with her son, a bunch of crazy secondhand birds, and an old dog. I make and find what I think are awesome things and I share them with you at prices that are as reasonable as possible . It is most important to me that you know you will receive prompt and courteous replies to any inquiries, that I have a solid return policy, that I ship incredibly promptly and that I know how important good customer service is. I really do strive to exceed your expectations.

Every order. Every day.

Thanks for reading this insufferable wall of text and stopping by Ye Olde Etsy Shoppe.

I'm really glad you're here. There's a whole bunch of other sellers on Etsy and you chose me. That's killer. I really aim to make everyone that buys from me insanely happy. Help me do that by checking the following out before you complete your purchase. If you didn't, that's cool, too. You and I, we'll get through this whole shopping thing just fine.

Accepted payment methods

  • Pay with Visa
  • Pay with Master Card
  • Pay with American Express
  • Pay with Discover
  • Pay with PayPal
  • Buy with Apple Pay
  • Pay with Sofort
  • Pay with iDeal
  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Please write for quotes on bigger items!

*Please note, I am rarely comfortable holding an item. I do it though, on occasion, don't ever be leery of writing me to ask!

PLEASE make sure your PayPal and etsy addresses match. Drop me a line if there's an issue, I ship to the address specified on your PayPal otherwise.

If you need this shipped as a gift, please specify in "note to seller."
All larger Int'l shipments must go Priority. Customers are responsible for all import fees, duties, customs fees etc. Please do not ask me to mark your item as a gift or undervalue it on the customs form. Doing so is a felony and also voids the insurance that protects your purchase.
Refunds and Exchanges
PLEASE BE AWARE Vintage items are naturally imperfect and i am incredibly detailed in my listings. If I miss something, if my listings are inaccurate, if measurements are wrong, that is an entirely different story. Please contact me immediately if you find a problem or issue with your item. It is not generally in my policy to accept returns on any of my vintage items.

All of my items are photographed prior to packing, including creed numbers of Coach and other bags, damage, etc. EVERYTHING I send is sent with tracking and many of my items are sent with signature confirmation and/or third-party insurance.

You may have noticed I VERY RARELY include sizing in my listings. I include measurements. I do this because that's what really matters. I do ballpark sizes in my tags but, I can no longer accept returns just because things do not fit. Vintage items are often delicate and I've had things returned destroyed and I just can't afford that anymore. I couldn't afford it, really, in the first place. If you have any questions about sizing just convo me and I'll help you sort it out. I will always accept a return if it's because of a mistake on my end, if damage is not clearly described, etc. All returns must be sent in original box, with original packing (or safe, proper packing) through the original shipping service -- priority, parcel-- however I sent it. All returns must be sent with delivery confirmation.

Beyond all this, I want you to be happy. I'm reasonable and I'm going to go to the ends of the Earth to make you happy! I think my feedback speaks to that. Please, just check your measures with a proper measuring tape. That's the biggie. My pictures and my measures are accurate. What you see and read here is exactly what you are going to get. No foolin'! :)

Please check out this link:

I can no longer offer returns based on simple buyer's remorse or because a buyer has not measured. I may ask for proof of mis-measured items on my end. Vintage clothing generally runs small. It is hardly ever in mint condition. I do my best to be incredibly descriptive in my listings and I do my VERY best to exceed your expectations. Please, read through my feedback. I'm not going to be rude or handle your requests or issues badly. Please always feel free to communicate with me with any issues you have. Just understand that Etsy sellers are not big box stores and cannot absorb losses like those retailers can. Please call me up and we can chat. I am gabby and I want you to be as stoked about your item as I was when I found it or made it. This shop and these items are little bits of my soul. I want you to be thrilled, any issues will always be sorted. Please know your purchases are guaranteed to be authentic, as described and that your satisfaction is always paramount.

I do not allow for pick ups except for furniture. I am not comfortable meeting buyers to have them inspect an item prior to purchase.

:) Treat me like you want to be treated and everything will be cool! :)

Thanks much-
Melissa xx
