Announcement   As of March 28, 2017, we have updated the name from The Dashwood Sisters Etsy Shop to Dashwood Doll Designs.
When I began this shop in 2010, it was a collaborate endeavor between me and my two sisters, and it was named after another set of three sisters: Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret Dashwood from Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility." When I rebooted the shop years later, it was just me creating and selling items, so I decided it was time for new name along with a fresh start. The new name keeps the familiar word "Dashwood" while focusing on the product the shop offers-- historical and modern clothing for 18-inch dolls.

I've used feedsack T-towels all of my life, but I'd never seen a feedsack dress. This dress is adorable and it fits the doll so well. It is one of my favortie outfits.

About

History, Fashion, Literature, and Dolls

From the time I was six years old, I spent hours reading American Girl books from cover to cover and flipping through the catalog time and time again, admiring each historical doll's extensive collection and dreaming of getting one of those "Dress Like Your Doll!" outfits so I could like Kirsten studying English on the Minnesota prairie. As I grew older, my interest in history and the fashions of history developed through an undying love for the works of Jane Austen and the adaptations thereof. I memorized not only the majority of lines and beats from the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, but also the intricate details of Elizabeth's gowns and coats, and which costumes were worn by other characters in other BBC miniseries.

When I was eighteen, I began to take sewing seriously, and started creating historical costumes for myself. I documented my projects on a blog called The Dashwood Sisters, named after Jane Austen's beloved characters and inspired by my close friendship with my two sisters. Over time, I realized that I could channel my interest in sewing and historical fashion into sewing for dolls as well as for myself. That is when I established The Dashwood Sisters Etsy Shop, where I featured an ensemble of modern, historical, and fantasy outfits for 18-inch dolls.

I started college in 2012 and put the shop on hiatus until 2016, when I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a deeper understanding of and love for literature and history than I had even before. The Dashwood Sisters is back, with a new spin. The newly remodeled shop will feature doll clothes ranging from modern to historical, covering a wide variety of cultural styles, and representing the strong and creative women of many times and places who changed the world and are continuing to change it for the better.
