Why Not?
My store began with that very question. I had been selling small artworks and making books as gifts for friends and utilitarian versions for myself for years. Why not see if anyone else out there was interested?
I secured the shop name and then researched, planned, hemmed and hawed for over a year before diving in and actually loading up my shop. In July of 2011, I launched the Delicate Utility with mostly small original artworks and a few small leather journals. Over those next few months I refined my designs, found my signature leather and started to find my groove as a custom leather goods maker.
The roster of journal designs has grown as more and more custom requests came in and I decided to keep the alterations in my line up. I've continued to add new leathers and designs into the shop and recently expanded into home goods.
The question I ask now, "what's next?"
