About

The Dorothy Days - Selling vintage and handmade from my home in the English countryside.

Welcome to The Dorothy Days and thank you for looking at my about page. I hope that through this page you will find out a little more about me and my shop.

My family are originally from London but we moved to a little 18th century thatched cottage in a tiny village in rural Dorset, England. I now spend my time between Dorset and beautiful Brighton which is a little further along the coast.

I had a wonderful childhood growing up in the countryside. The village was a magical place to grow up. Still to this day there are no road markings or street lights and it was the kind of place where you know all your neighbours. The warmer months were spent playing in the garden, lazing in the sunshine in meadows and attempting to make our very own flower perfumes (!) and the winter months were spent making dens in the woods, splashing in puddles and frequently getting stuck in mud (!) and then coming in and warming up in front of the fireplace.

My love for the countryside is something that inspires my work and also the style of the vintage items which I sell in my shop. I hope to bring a little slice of the English countryside to you all!

I have based my shop around one of my favourite quotes. The quote is by William Morris (1834 - 1896) who was an English textile designer and artist. He said, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”, with this quote in mind I have filled my shop with beautiful handmade items and vintage items which are both beautiful and useful. My vintage items such as my teacups look beautiful when displayed but can also be used and this is a fantastic way to bring life back to old object.

I am proud to be a small, independant shop which is individual and greatly influenced by my own style and tastes.I love both the vintage and the crafting aspects of my shop as both of these are a huge passion of mine and something I really enjoy doing. I hope that my passion for these objects comes through in my shop. You certainly won't be able to find this on the highstreet!

Aside from crafting and vintage, my other passions include....

* Art- Art has always been a major passion of mine. You will often find me wandering around art galleries in total awe!!

*Tea - If you have seen my Twitter you will already know this about me, I am rather obsessed with tea and never far from a trusty cuppa! When I am crafting tea helps fuel my creativity and when I am listing new items it keeps me going.

I really hope this has given you a little insight into my shop and let you know a little bit about me too. I am always happy to hear from you, please feel free to drop me a message with a question, comment or custom request.

Please also see my social media sites, you can now find me on Instagram, blogger, Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook

Have a wonderful day!

Frequently asked questions

Wholesale availability

Please contact me via Etsy convo or thedorothydays@hotmail.co.uk for wholesale enquiries

Gift wrapping and packaging

I gift wrap all orders so they are perfect for giving as a gift or a lovely treat for yourself

Smaller items: Placed in an organza bag and placed into a branded gift bag with The Dorothy Days sticker
Larger items: Gift wrapped in wrapping paper with ribbon

If your purchase is a gift and you would like me to write the name on the gift tag please do let me know via Etsy convo and I can arrange this.

Breakable items are carefully wrapped in protective packaging to ensure your item is protected during shipping. I use lots of bubble wrap and protective nuggets when I wrap. I like to be as eco friendly as possible so use recycled packaging material when I can. Prints are sent in protective sleeves to prevent any water damage in transit.

Custom and personalised orders

I love custom orders, please contact me with your idea/ custom order request and I will see what I can do!

Vintage Items

I have been careful to note in the listing any flaws to the item or imperfections in my vintage items. Most of my vintage items however are in immaculate condition. If you have any questions about any of my items please ask me before purchasing.

Photographs

I photograph all my items in high resolution so you can see in detail the item. Please click on the photographs to view the items in high resolution. Please be aware that due to different lighting and different computer monitor settings the colour of the item may vary slightly from the photograph.
