About

Step by step

The Drifter Leather consists of a team: Callie, Christianna, Maria and Garifalos.
We are a small family business with tons of love for what we do!
Callie is a photographer and graphic designer, Christianna is a musician and their mother and father, Maria and Garifalos, have over 20 years of experience in the shoe industry.

We decided to work on a kind of an old-fashioned project: to hand-craft shoes that are comfortable and sustainably made with custom measurements, respecting individuality, the nature of the human body, and the value of materials that sometimes are thrown away due to mass production.

The heritage we carry goes three generations back. Our beloved grandmother, and Maria's mother, was a very talented modiste back in the 60's. Our grandfather, Garifalos's father, was a really creative cobbler who also produced shoe designs.

In memory of the people who taught us everything, but also in memory of "the old times" when craftsmanship was an everyday reality, we decided to make a line of ethically produced shoes.

Everything you see around our shop is hand-cut and sewn! The Drifter team owns the creative process, from the patterns to the photographs. Most of our designs are limited and when restocked, we usually offer new editions featuring new colors and textures.

We always use excellent quality materials, trying to recycle as we seek leather put aside. We never purchase it in lots and we utilize pieces to create our small collection of accessories.

For all the reasons above, we are very passionate about arts and crafts, and this shop is a great challenge for our imagination.

Our studio-showroom in Pylea, Thessaloniki used to be a garage and, as all garage bands do, we are jamming with our ideas. Our designs are the product of unity, cooperation and heritage.

Everything you see around our shop is hand-cut and sewn! The Drifter team owns the creative process, from the patterns to the photographs. Most of the designs are limited and when restocked, we usually offer new editions featuring new colors and textures.

CUSTOM FIT SHOES:
We offer the service of custom fit on all shoe orders without additional cost. If you choose to go for the custom fit service, we'll only use your standard size to cross-check with the measurements/outlines you'll provide. We accommodate sizes from US3.5 /UK 2/ EU34 and up to US14 /UK 12 /EU47, as well as different sizes between feet and various widths.

Returns and exchange details
We want our customers to be completely satisfied and we take pride in having happy customers!

NOT SATISFIED WITH YOUR PURCHASE?
Please contact us before leaving your review and we will try to work things out the best way possible. We are open to review any issues on a case by case basis.

WHEN?
For us to refund or exchange the item, you have to contact us about the issue within 7 days upon receipt and ship the item back in the next 7 days.
We will only proceed to a refund if the returned item upon inspection is found to be in new, resellable condition. There will be no refunds for footwear that show signs of wear and tear. Signs of wear and tear include but are not limited to: marked and/or dirty soles, creased uppers and scuffs on the leather.

Please make sure to return the item in it's original box or a similar cardboard box, if the original one is not available. We won't be able to complete the refund, in case the item shows damage caused due to unsafe packaging.

*Please, don't forget to include any documents you received in the returned package.*

The money will be refunded to your account within 6 working days, after we receive the returned product to check its condition.


EXCHANGES:
In regards to size altering/exchange, we offer one free altering/exchange per pair, even for custom items. When it comes to customized footwear in terms of colors, upper's designing, upper's volume customization and differences between the shoes of a pair, we can only exchange for the same design and color. Charges for further alterations may vary, so please contact us to get a quote.

In case of an exchange or altering, we will start crafting the new item after we have received and inspected the condition of the returned pair. We can only proceed to the exchange or altering if the returned item is in new, resellable condition. We can't exchange footwear that show signs of wear and tear. Signs of wear and tear include but are not limited to marked and/or dirty soles, creased uppers and scuffs on the leather.

Please make sure to return the item in its box or another similar box if the original one is not available. We can't proceed to an exchange, in case the item shows damage caused by an unsafe packaging, during shipping.

There's a possibility that the same leather/color/texture and/or other materials won't be available in our stock, so we retain the right to cancel and refund the order if we cannot come to an agreement for an alternative option available at that time.

CUSTOM ORDERS:
When it comes to custom orders, our shop's policy is that we do not accept returns but we do exchange the item in case of wrong sizing and uncomfortable fit.

RETURN SHIPPING COSTS:
While the return shipping cost is not covered by us in case of a return due to production error, we will cover the shipping back to us. In case of an exchange, the cost shipping back to us will be on you, and we will resend the new or adjusted item at our expense. When you ship items back to us, make sure to label the package with no declared value and mark it as "returned goods", since the value of the product you sent back is not the original.

Buyer is liable for any customs charges that might occur due to mislabeling of returning packages.
Please, make sure to include your name/order number in the returning package so we can track your order's history in our system and contact you.

WHEN?
Payment is expected as soon as possible but you can also feel free to ask for a reserved listing if you are planning to pay within 2-3 days.

PROCESSING TIMES:
All of the items in our shop are made to order. Upon the full receipt of your payment, and assuming we already have your specific measurements and sizing, we will start processing your order. We usually need 2-3 weeks to complete any order. Custom orders may take a bit longer, depending on material availability.
Shipping
WHEN?
We ship the product as soon as it's complete as our turnaround time varies. To get the current turnaround time, please contact us or check the website's homepage footer.
During national holidays and strikes affecting the shipping procedure, there may be slight delay which we'll inform you of as soon as possible.

WHERE?
We ship worldwide via registered priority air mail through the Hellenic Post Office (ELTA).
Please, double-check the address you provide during checkout . In case of PayPal payment we can only ship items to the PayPal address you have submited.
We want your new shoes to reach you safely and we'll do everything we can to ensure it!

HOW?
Registered International mail is a secure, low-cost shipping service and your package is accompanied by a tracking code*. We use this service for all packages shipped from our shop.

Within 3 days from the time your package is shipped, you'll be notified and we'll provide you with the tracking number of the delivery.
The postperson will have to deliver the package personally to you, so your signature will be required. In case you can't be reached at the address you provided, a notice will be left there, so you can arrange delivery or pick the package up from your local post office. We retain the right to ship pairs of the same order separately. In this case, you'll receive more than one tracking code.

*Registered packages are trackable through all stages for most countries but there are a few exceptions. Please, check with your National Post to learn if they provide tracking for Registered International Mail.

EXPEDITED SHIPPING:
If you need your item to arrive at a specific date, please convo us before placing your order to make it happen, if possible. The available courier services and shipping costs vary widely.

SHIPPING TIMES:
Usually the mail from Thessaloniki, Greece to the U.S., Australia, Canada and Asia takes about 10-15 working days. It takes 3-7 working days for a package to get to Western and Eastern European destinations. For domestic deliveries, it takes 3-5 working days.
There are also some options for express delivery that take 2 or 3 days available at an extra cost. We're not liable for delays caused by postal services and this is why we can't guarantee an exact arriving date. Buyer is responsible for any custom charges that might occur.

PACKAGING:
Shoes are shipped in a kraft, hand-stamped cardboard box with the DL logo and packaged with colorful tissue paper.

COLOR CUSTOMIZATION:
In case you want to have slight changes, such as color and leather type, compared to what you see on the photographs of our products, feel free to convo us and we will try our best to accommodate your request.

All patterns used for our designs are made by our small team and require a lot of time, research and testing. We're not able to attach high-heeled soles on our designs, as we use no machinery other than a sewing machine. This helps keep our carbon footprint low and our shoe soles minimalistic according to the barefoot footwear philosophy.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "CUSTOM FIT"?

We strongly believe in individuality rather than generic sizes! We offer the service of custom fit on all shoe orders without additional cost. We only ask for your shoe size in order to cross-check with the custom fit measurements. We accommodate women's sizes from US5 /UK 2.5/ EU35 and up to US14 /UK 12 /EU47, as well as different sizes between feet, various widths and calf circumferences. Please feel free to request a design listed as men’s or women’s, in either women’s or men’s sizes.

WHAT ARE MINIMALISTIC SHOES & SOLES?

The soles featured on our shoes follow the barefoot footwear philosophy. Wearing the shoes you will feel your feet free to move, bend and feel the ground. Some of our designs feature leather soles with combined Vibram rubber parts while some feature full Vibram soles with piping.
Both of these sole types are really lightweight and flexible.

WHAT SOLE OPTIONS DO I HAVE?

The soles featured on our shoes follow the barefoot style philosophy. Wearing the shoes you will feel your feet free to move and bend. Some of our designs feature leather soles and combined rubber parts while some feature full Vibram soles with piping.
The full Vibram soles are hand-cut out of Vibram rubber sheets (of 6 or 4 mm thickness) that cover the whole sole of the shoes. A piping around the shoe is required and therefore they have a wide look.
Leather soles with rubber parts allow the shoes to be folded and can be easily stored into a dust-bag when you are on the go. As they are mostly made out of leather, they are more suitable for warmer days and dry surfaces.

WHAT INSOLE OPTIONS DO I HAVE?

The insoles are made out of 1mm thickness soft cushion and a layer of thin leather. They don't feature any arch support. We can also add 0.5cm hidden heel cushion for a slight heel elevation to allow for a smooth transition to truly flat flats.

CAN I HAVE A PAIR CRAFTED ON THE SIZE AND SHAPE OF MY FEET?

As our shoes are handmade and all parts are hand-cut we are able to customize the size and create a pair of shoes that will fit comfortably. We can also accommodate orders for different length or width between feet or change the shape of the toe-box to follow your natural foot's shape.

CAN I PLACE AN ORDER FOR A PAIR OF SHOES IN A CUSTOM COLOR OR DIFFERENT LEATHER TYPE?

In case you want slight changes to your order, such as color and leather type, compared to what you see on the photographs of our products feel free to drop us an email and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

CAN YOU CRAFT A CUSTOM DESIGN I HAVE IN MIND?

WHAT WOULD THE TURNAROUND TIME FOR MY ORDER BE?

Our crafting time normally takes three to four weeks. In case of a backorder that might cause a delay, we’ll make sure to notify you about this.
We ship the footwear as soon as they are ready. This may not apply to national holidays and strikes affecting the shipping procedure, as post offices might not be on service.

WHAT TYPE OF PACKAGING ARE THE ITEMS SHIPPED IN?

Shoes are packaged with tissue paper and shipped in a cardboard box, which keeps them safe during their travel. The cardboard box is then wrapped with a kraft paper. We avoid the use of plastic on our packaging to reduce waste.
